Remstar Plus M Series noise question

Post Remstar Plus M Series noise question
Hi-

I just got a replacement machine and even though it's the same type of machine (Remstar Plus M Series) this one runs louder than the last one and it keeps me and my partner awake at times.  It is not air leakage noise from the mask, it is definitely machine noise.  As it ramps up to full pressure, it has a whistle sound and just the general noise of the machine is louder.

Are there any suggestions for making it quieter OR any ideas for a quiet machine?  We are willing to get a quieter one if necessary--we both have health issues that make undisturbed sleep an absolute necessity.

Thanks for any ideas you all may have--we need to have a solution ASAP.

I don't know anything about the Remstar machines, but I do know that the ResMed Elite II is very quiet (I have the ResMed Autoset II - same motor that the Elite II has).

I don't know how long you have been on cpap or if you care about data capability, but the plus series only has compliance data (how long you used the machine each night). If you want fully data capable in the remstar line it has to be pro, not plus i believe.

My first machine was a Remstar Pro M and it was loud.  I had it replaced and the next one was much quieter.

See if you can get a replacement...be persistent, but not annoying.

yeah, my machine is pretty noisy sometimes too. It is a M-series. I just wear earplugs and that seems to do a pretty good job blocking out the noise. I was considering getting one of those muffler things too. I have seen mixed reviews of it though.

That's funny... I ordered 2 of these yesterday, one for my wife and one for me. I also got a set of earplugs and used them for the first time last night.

For me it isn't that the machine is to loud, but that I listen to the rhythm of my breathing. I am still trying to get used to the CPAP, last night was my 7th night, and while I feel like I am doing well, but just cutting down the annoying things. Now that I am feeling better I'm nitpicking a little bit.

I had a hard time the first few days too because I was so focused on paying attention to my breathing. But eventually I managed to stop doing that.

Glenna...

The worst part is if I am not paying attention to my machine, I'm paying attention to my wife's. So if I get stuck in her rythum of breathing that wakes me up.

sounds like you definitely need earplugs. Or if you can stand a white noise generator that can work, but you may need to have it fairly loud which could end up keeping you awake.

I got the Whisper Caps for both mine and my wife's machines today, BUT she is on an APAP trial. I don't know what pressure she is at right now, but it is running loud! It's another RemStar M.

I did notice that it changed the frequency of the sound of the machine, but the noise reduction I'll hold my judgment on until I get a more normal night; until then its ear plugs.
