Post Having issues.....any advice???
Well I have been on my cpap for about 6 weeks now...and have gotten used to it, BUT the last few nights i have been waking up with my mask OFF!! I have no recollection of taking it off, so i am obviously doing it while i am still asleep (or at least not conscious enough to remember) Has anyone else done this and do yall have any advice as to how i can keep from doing this??? Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Hi Amy, it is interesting you should be asking this question as it wasn't long ago I read that someone else was having this same problem.  What was recommended was that you put a piece of your hair across the velcro attachment so that when you pull your mask off you pull your hair.  Enough that it hurts and wakes you up.  Or tie a rubber band to your hair and to one of the straps.  That would serve the same purpose.  Hope that helps.  Others might have other ideas also.   Good luck.

What you describe is quite common, in fact.

Using my case as one possible example, when I would remove the mask get up or make an adjustment (or scratch) I would sometimes think that I'm not quite sleepy enough to fall back to sleep, so I'll put the mask on in a minute or so.  Inevitably, I would fall asleep an instant later.

So, for me, it was just a matter of re-donning the contraption before I do another thing.  As soon as that became my habit, I never awoke next to el masko again.

It's totally common, and quite surmountable.

Good luck.

I can relate ... for the first several weeks I had the mask on I would wake up in the middle of the night and experience something akin to a claustrophobic panic attack and I would tear the damn thing off my head and go back to sleep.

After the first hellish three months I switched from a full face mask to a ComfortGel Nose Mask, and my panic attacks ended.
