I received the prescription for my cpap machine and mask from my sleep doc and was instructed to a medical supply co. I arrive and they already had my info faxed from my doctors office. The guy gives me the machine, a REMstar Pro M series with humidifier and data card. I asked how much it would cost, he said they file with the insurance for 2700.00. I asked how much I would have to pay, he said my insurance does a "rent to own" over 10 months. The medical supply co have not filed anything with my insurance co yet. So feeling apprehensive, I called my insurance company and was informed "durable medical equipment" was subject to deductible (500.00), of which I have paid 0 this year. The insurance rep had me keep in mind my deductible starts over in January, so I would have to pay next years deductible before they start paying their 80% of my "durable medical equipment". I can purchase this same machine online for 549. plus 40 shipping. Has anyone else run into this problem? It seems to me my insurance will not allow them to charge me this much but without the claim being filed with them, they really couldn't tell me more. Any advice is welcomed.
