Post Need for fully data-capable machines
Wow! Thanks for posting!

With that kind of research showing that there is a difference in how the various machines respond to apneic events, it makes me wonder why the insurance companies don't insist on us getting fully data-capable machines. Probably because they don't understand the machines either. However, it does make me think that an APAP machine, with full monitoring of the data, is the only way to go.

Actually, in my personal opinion, having a CPAP w/full data capability is considerably more important than having an APAP. Bare bone, compliance data capable only CPAPs are the bottom of the barrel and usually the models pawned off on unsuspecting, first time xPAP users by the local DME providers.

And it is usually EASIER to convince a reluctant local DME provider to equip you w/a full data capable CPAP than it is to convince them to equip you w/an APAP.

On the other hand, asking for a fully data capable APAP when the local DME provider is offering only a bare bone compliance data capable only CPAP can give both you AND the local DME provider room to negotiate and agree on their providing a fully data capable CPAP.
