Hi all! I just joined seceral days ago, and have already posted one question, but i thought maybe i should introduce myself! I am Amy from Indiana.  I have 2 wonderful children who are my world.  I am a single mother, which isn't always the easiest thing to do LoL! Anyway here is my story up to now....My children who are 10 and 12, have always complained about my snoring....OK so i snore, i thought no biggie! Never gave sleep apnea a thought! I am on anyi depressants and STILL was always feeling irritable....I was EXHAUSTED all the time, so bad in fact that I started taking caffene pills just to function and get through my days, well long story short, in the end i was taking over 12 caff pills a day and i was still falling asleep at work even! This also made me very sick and i went off of them.  Well i went off of them after i admitted to my grandmother what i was doing and she called my Dr to let them know, anywya they got me in and i told them all of my symptoms...the exhaustion, the waking up at night, the irritability, the headaches etc.  I should mention by the time I went to the Dr i had been suspecting sleep apnea, bc as i travel to concerts with a few girlfriends, they had told me that i stop breathing in my sleep and scared them to death! SO at this point we discuss a sleep test. Well i went in Last Tuesday (the 8th) for my sleep study and was woken on the night to have a cpap put on me....i had trouble falling back to sleep with the mask as i am clausterphobic as well....but i did manage some sleep. THANKFULLY! I am still waiting the results from my Dr who said they should have them tomorrow....but when the tech came in to wake me in the morning after my sleep study, he said that i have very severe sleep apnea and when i asked how many times i had stopped breathing before he put the mask on me he said it averaged over 100 times an hour. So i pretty much know my diagnosis...just waiting on the Dr to confirm it and get me started on treatment. I am still new to all the terminology and such but have been reading the board and this board is very helpful...thank you for that! I am sure i will be posting more often in the future!

Welcome Amy, you will find such support and info here.  Keep us posted as you take each new step here and NEVER hesitate to ask a question, you will find that ANY question you can ask someone will have an answer for.  Sounds like you are on track to have a nice new restful life in front of you.  Your children will benefit from a more rested mom as well.

Thanks for the welcome! It's monday and my Doc was supposed to put a "rush" on my results and have them Friday....still waiting to get that call, so they can then set me up with treatment! It is so aggravating, i mean i suspected Sleep apnea but never thought it was as bad as it is, kinda makes me leary of going to sleep now (not that i can keep from falling asleep tho) I just want to get started on treatment and feel better! I guess i am an impatient person and hate the "waiting game"! LoL

AMY...welcome and keep us posted on the outcome of your sleep study report.  At least you had others around you that cared about getting you help whether you wanted it or not.  Good for Grandma.....

Pacman...i told my Grandma you cheered her on and that made her laugh! She told me.."see I did the right thing!" I do know that now...although at the time i wasnt myself and was irritated at her for doing it!

NOW if I could just get my Drs office to CALL ME BACK!!! I am soooo tired of being exhausted! Now my kids are doing football, volunteer work, drama club, cub scouts, and school stuff...which keeps me going all the time and i am a walking zombie by the evening! Called yesterday and left another msg, plan on doing so today as well, I thought when ya put a "rush" on something that you should get it pretty quickly?! Ughhhh

So I got my results...FINALLY...thats in another post, but i just wanted to say that I had to call the Sleep center where my study was done (after some much needed advice) and they told me they had faxed my Dr the results on the 10th!!!! I was livid...as i have been leaving msgs since the 10th and gotten NO RESPONSE from my doc til yesterday! And I had to call them and not be so nice to get the results....to me, that is ansolutely not acceptable! I am seeing my family doc and thought they would refer me (as i need a referral due to ins) to a Dr who specializes in this area....i may have to request that if i want it done right i do believe...Anyway about 10 mins after i talked to the Drs office the DME called me and got my ins info and is supposed to call me and set something up today to get my cpap.....long time waiting but nervous/excited to get things going!

Did you get your cpap machine yet and if so how is it going for you?

I did get it...last night was my second night, the first night went better than expected with 5-6 hrs of sleep, i felt pretty good yesterday...was up from 6:30 am to around 10:30 pm..with NO NAP!!! THat in itself is amazing! Got a lil bit tired in the evening but not like the usual all day exhaustion! Last night was a lil more rough as a few days before i got my machine i developed a major head/chest cold....i spent most of the night coughing my head off and had to keep taking off the mask....i'd say i got MAYBE 4-5 hrs sleep...so we will see how today goes!
