Post Sleep Study Question
I had my sleep study done this past Monday night.  I am just 20, but I am always tired and I go fall asleep for short period of times multiple times per day.  My mom has said she has heard me snore and stop breathing at night, and when I have fallen asleep in my chair in the living room.  The past 3 years I have experienced memory loss.  I forget stuff all the time and I always feed groggy all day and I have gained weight the last 3 years.

During my study I had a horrible time falling asleep.  It took me probably almost 2 hours to fall asleep and when I would fall asleep I would wake right back up.  It was suppose to be a split study, but the tech never come in for me to use the cpap.  Is it possible that I was never asleep long enough for me to stop breathing like I usually do at home???  I havn't got the results yet, but I fear that they will say there is nothing wrong with me, and I know that there is.  I really can't keep on going to college and running my business when I have no energy.

Post My two cents
When I had my first sleep study done on 12/5/05, it was supposed to be a split study.  Even though I fell asleep in 8 minutes, they did not have time to do the split after they determined I did have sleep apnea.  The cpap titration (second portion) does require a certain amount of time. If that time is not there, they won't do it.

This doesn't necessarily mean they found nothing.  Hang in there for the results.  By the way, interestingly enough, I thought it took me hours to fall asleep.  It was 8 minutes according to their study.

I hope my two cents worth makes your feel at least a little more positive about the experience.

Don't worry,  you usually do not have to be asleep very long before the effects of apnea begin.  Though you mom may think you only stop breathing when you snore, the truth of the matter is that you may stop breathing much more often.  My wife thought I stopped breathing a couple of times a night.  When I went for the study, they got all the data they needed in just 93 minutes of sleep, I had 198 OSA's.  So, if you slept even for a short time, they probably have enough data.  Just relax and wait for the results, but don't wait too long they should be able to give you results in two weeks or less.  I'd recomend calling after a week to see what the status is, it can't hurt to remind them that you are anxiously waiting the results.  Good luck.  Keep us posted.
