I had my long awaited for sleep study last night and I was so uncomfortable and anxious it hardly felt as if I slept at all. The tech said the study is not "pass / fail" and that I did sleep a bit. I have to wait two weeks (at least) for the results. How likely do you think it is that the results will accurately describe my condition? I was refered for the sleep study because a pulse oximetry test I took one night indicated a level of 84%(but I do not know for how long) and I snore. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I just want to be certain that I can trust the results of the study, or more importantly, know what is or is not going on with me. Thanks in advance.
A single sleep study can never read what you do most nights. That said, they are very expensive and those doing them have a lot of experience with all kinds of people.
Try to get a machine which will monitor how effective it is as it is used each night. It will tell you some of what is going on and the data will be useful to your doctor letting him know if another study is necessary.
I have often wondered if it would be wise to start some local interest gropes and gather enough resources to obtain some "in the home sleep study" equipment which could be loaned out to the members periodically to do some "self studies" and so see how things are doing without getting very expensive.
Just a thought or two,
