Post Resmed Autoset Spirit, problem with setting ramp/settling?
Hi all, well I'm a newbie here! I've had my test CPAP machine for just over 4 days now and haven't been able to fall asleep with it on once, I even gave up one night and didn't put it on at all, due to the impending frustration I knew I would encounter.

However last night I decided to stay positive and throw the beast back on, I just have the standard mask and the humidifier at 2 on specialists recommendation, after 2 hours of no sleep and fiddling with the machine I think I have come to the conclusion that the reason I cannot fall asleep is because the Resmed Autoset slowly moves from 4.0 up to about 11.5!  The pressure is gradual, but I am someone who takes quite a long time to fall asleep, with a foreign feeling mask on my face, even moreso!

So I did some googling and found that you can set a settling time or ramp, or something, that will increase the duration of how fast it gains pressure, or when it starts so you are able to fall asleep before it activates, I think this may be the solution for me.

However! When scouring through the options on the Resmed, I came across the Settling option, but it would not let me turn it on! I looked everywhere in the menus but I can not for the life of me figure out how to change the settings to allow me to turn the settling on and set it up for me to sleep with.

Has anyone got any ideas on how to get about this? This is all very foreign to me but I am determined to have a good night sleep and stay positive! With every night the mask feels less 'scary' hehe.

Thanks in advance!

I feel your pain.  I have had my machine for 1 month.  I am using the full face mask...what a trip. When am I supposed to feel this wonderful relaxed rested feeling?  I have yet to sleep a complete night.  My record is about 5 hours.  I just can't explain how disgusted I am with this whole mess.

Pages 17 through 20 of the instruction manual describes how to set the settling / ramp time.

Hey, thanks for that!  Unfortunately the problem is when I get to "Settling" and change it, I am unable to adjust it to anything other than "Off". :(

It sounds like the ramp may have been disabled by somebody using the clinical menu..  Take it back to the DME or the doctor's office and ask them to enable the ramp feature.

also try without ramp at full pressure, breathe deep and slow and relax, it may help to leave a light on
