Post WHat to do when camping?
Hi, all,

I got a Remstar Plus this January, and of course adore it.

However, I like to camp in the summer. What do you folks do when you go somewhere that power is not readily available? Just do without? Are there any kind of power packs anyone is familiar with?

Thanks,

E

It is a Bad Idea to not use your CPAP while camping.  There are several threads about camping and batteries.  In the upper right hand corner of this page there is a search button; do two different searches; one for 'camping' and one for 'battery'.

In a nutshell;

Essentially, you will have to carry a battery with you.  You probably won't be able to use your humidifier, and you will need either a DC cable for your CPAP or an inverter.  The battery has to be designed to tolerate deep discharge; a standard car battery is not suitable except in an emergency.  I use a Battery Geeks lithium ion battery pack, some others use various lead/acid batteries.

Bearded One, I'm curious how long that battery will last with a full charge?  I don't live far from the Gulf and when we are affected by hurricanes I wondered about some type of back up when the power goes out.

It depends upon how big the battery is.  My Battery Geeks 222 CPAP battery (about as big as a large hardback novel) will last me about two nights, and my deep cell battery (about as big and heavy as a car battery) should last me at least a week.

What is needed to hook up a deep cell battery to the machine?

I have a Power Source 400 unit (weighs 32 pounds).  It is used as a backup for some office equipment.  It will power my machine for about two nights at six- seven hours.  I have used an invertor on my deep power (boat battery).  However, I don't like to use any regular battery unless I have to since the battery acid is a pain to work around.  I have burned a hole in more than one pair of jeans a our  hunting cabin.
