Tingling limbs using CPAP (nasal pillow) for first time

Post Tingling limbs using CPAP (nasal pillow) for first time
It was definitely not a comfortable feeling.  My sleep dr. suggested I wear the machine for 1/2 hour for the first two nights to adjust to it.  I wore it for about 40 minutes and for the last 15 minutes I had extremely uncomfortable, almost painful tingling running the full length of my arms and legs.  I had to wait a few minutes before I could even type on the keyboard.  Has anyone had this experience?  I'm not looking forward to using it again tomorrow and I definitely am not sleeping with the thing on if this is how it is going to make me feel.

I don't know, but maybe you were not moving around in the bed like you do without the mask.  Maybe a change in sleep position is all you need, the cpap is not going to cause numbness and tingling.  Good luck, Virginia

I've been on CPAP going on 3 weeks and use the nasal pillow.  I slept 8 hours with it the first night and all nights since for ever how many hours I slept.  It does take some getting used to, but I didn't have any tingling or numbness sensations either.

I have MANY herniated discs and the majority of them have nerve root damage...and some are pressing on the dura.  The xPAP has not caused any parathesis and I have not heard of it causing that on anyone.

Parathesis is normally caused by spinal nerve damage, pinched nerve, neuropathy or poor circulation.  Room air stenting the airway open will not cause nor interfere with any of this...if anything it will make your system work better becuase you are not depriving your body of O2 and not stressing your body during apnea/hypopnea events.  Before you give up on a life saving therapy please learn more about what untreated SA can do to you and understand what the treatment is all about.

AS Virgina57 said Talk to your Dr...it is most likely something else and nothing to do with the xPAP.  Don't give up on your therapy.

Keep us posted please.

Post sleeping wrong
Amish, you may have inadvertly changed the side of your body that you are sleeping on.  Tingling in hands comes from pinched neck quite a lot.  I started getting that when I switched to a tempurpedic bed in my quest for a good night sleep. too firm for me.  The breathing and air does not result in your side-affect, however, the change in sleep style may. If you use nose pillows on your mask, you can try sleeping on your side.

I find that I am sleeping so much sounder since starting on my cpap. There are alot of mornings I wake up in the exact same position I was in when the light was shut off. Some of those mornings I may have an arm or foot that is tingly, but once I get moving it gets back to normal. Each time this has happend it has ended up being a night that I didn't move at all through th enight and that part of my body was bent awkwardly for the duration of the night, so it has basically gone to sleep its self.

If it doesnt go a way make sure you talk to your dr about it!!

I had something like that during my sleep study with the CPAP. I don't have my machine yet but I did notice during the study as I was drifting in and out of semi-sleep that my arms and hands were tingly...Hmmmm, I wonder why?

The top of my left thigh tingles most of the time and burns like crazy yet it is normal temperature.  I attribute this to a pinched nerve, not CPAP.

Yes, that first night was the only time I had tingles, so I'm attributing to either hyperventilating from trying too hard to breathe with the thing, or a punched nerve from trying too hard not to move!

Whatever the cause, everything is all good now and I have been sleeping through the night with it.  So far I can't tell any difference in how I feel but it is a one-month trial so we'll see how I feel at the end.

Well . . . I have had problems since about 2005-I wake up every day and I cannot feel my hands.  My fingers and nails are literally white! I have chronic ulcers to my fingertips, cuts that will not heal, fissures.  So bad that when I had fingerprints done for job, they will not turn out.  I saw a dermatologist about a year ago-stated it was "eczema' which I do not buy.  I suspect that the problem is from lack of circulation from little or no oxygen, as well as nerve issues. With chronic illnesses though, , there comes a point where one must choose the most significant issues-breathing and heart issues take precedence, of course.  There is only so much time, money, resources. I have been to the doctors, but they do not address concern.  I have a HX of back/disk problems too.  I hope you are able to get some answers. Lantern4life
