Blind Date with an APAP

Post Blind Date with an APAP
The doc is wondering why I still feel tired during the day, and I'm going to use an auto CPAP for a short time to collect data on what my pressure(s) should be.

What can I expect with this? Will I notice this machine changing pressures while I'm trying to fall asleep or will it wake me up? I'm sleeping pretty well with the non-auto machine. Thanks.

An Auto Pap is just like a standard CPAP machine except that instead of a static pressure, it will slowly auto adjust the pressure until your index is the lowest.  You probably won't notice a thing.

If the Dr has the pressure range set wide open (Normally default setting which for most machines are 4 to 20) you may notice if a higher pressure kicks in...at least I did during an inhome auto titration.  This only happened a few times to me throughout the 2 week period I had it....no big deal.

I did this twice. The first time the pressure was set at a wide range 4-20 I think, and boy did I have problems sleeping! I'd wake up everytime the pressure got up high, it felt like a tornado blowing in my face. The next time my pressure was normally at 20, and I had it set at 15-20, this was much , much easier.  I ended up with a 17 and am doing much better. I still have daytime sleepiness, but I think this is a medication issue for me and I'm working on that angle right now.  My ahi has been running between 1.3 and 3 most nights, so I have to look elsewhere . Thanks to everyone for their experiences. I had hoped to have the APAP by now, to see for myself, but it hasn't arrived yet.

Have used it for four nights. It doesn't wake me up, so either I sleep through pressure changes or there aren't any. I guess I won't know until I'm done and they read the card. The display says the AHI is 2.3. The "90% pressure" is 9.5; does that mean 9.5 is the optimum pressure it's detecting?

One thing I don't like is the starting pressure. The setting for my CPAP was 9, and I didn't ramp. For this test on the APAP, they set it at 7, with a top of 15. I'm not used to the lower pressure, and it seems harder to breathe at first. One night I took the mask off in my sleep, which I understand can happen when you feel like you can't breathe well.
