Post chin strap/TMJ question
Anyone getting headaches/ear pain because of chin strap being too tight ? Would love to know how you get around it.

My husband has been suffering from ear pain(diagnosed as TMJ) for the past 1 month now. If the chin strap is tight enough, the pain becomes worse. If it is not tight, his apnea gets worse (because of air leaking through the mouth)

 Sad

Yes.  It aggravated my TMJ horribly.  The answer is a full face mask.  I have the liberty and the hybrid masks.  No ear aches. no headaches.

What is a splint?  I am a three month user of a full face mask 16/22 pressur on my bilevel machine.  I have us use a chin strap, but don't like my teeth grinding together.

Thanks.

If you have a full face mask, you don't need a chin strap.  The chin strap is supposed to keep you mouth from opening and air escaping that way.  This is not a problem with a full face mask.  The pressure is applied through the mouth as well as the nose.

a splint is made up by dentist and usually expensive, worn in mouth when asleep, dentist should know about TMJ
may help if you rub sudes of his face with some oil to relax the muscles, lots about TMJ on the net
