Post Keeping mouth shut when using only nasal pillows
Hey all! I'm generally NOT a mouth breather, but I have a full-face mask, just in case ('cause sometimes I grind my teeth when I've had a bad day and my mouth opens, creating a wind tunnel). Well...my face is SORE today. I have a ginormous (official term) zit forming right where my mask sits and it's one of those sub-cutaneous marble ones that hurts when your mouth moves, never mind having a mask sitting on it all night. So...tonight I'm am going to use my nasal pillows only.
My question is...how do I keep my mouth shut for tonight?  And probaby for the weekend until the flare-up settles down? I know that I've seen something on this forum before, but I can't find the thread. I don't have a chin strap, but I think I've seen something about tape before. I'm afraid to just use medical tape to tape my mouth shut becuase I have visions of pulling skin off my lip trying to remove the tape in the morning.
Any advise?
I mean, I can take my chances and see what happens, but if I can prevent as much leakage as possible, that would be great.  Very Happy

you ca roll lips inward so tape goes on skin above and below them
fold back both ends to form 2 tear off strips

Look for paper tape listed as "for sensitive skin" at the pharmacy.  Works fine, and doesn't tear your lips off when you remove it.  If you're skittish about taping all the way across your mouth, try a single piece of 1" tape vertically in the center of your lips.  That ususally works for me, but if your pressure is high enough you might have to tape all the way across.  Fold the ends of the tape over about 1/4" so you have something to grab when it comes time.

One other thing that works well with the paper tape is to wet it prior to removal.  Much easier to take off.

Post Chapstick...
I've been using paper tape for about a week...   I don't think I mouth breath much if at all, but my Dr. suggested I might be... and to make sure I am not, I've been taping my mouth shut... Someone suggested putting capstick and/or vasaline on your lips... this has worked well for me.   Just make sure you don't put too much on and/or get it on places other then your lips...

I haven't seen sensitive skin tape... but that's probably worth a try too, but I'd probably still recommend putting some chapstick on the lips if your concerned about it at all...

I find taped lips to be fairly comfortable, at least no where near as bad as it sounded the first time I heard about it.  If you have to get up and want a drink, it's kind of a pain to have to un-tape to do that... However, I've found that if I'm careful, untaping just enough to take a drink and then put it back on is not that hard....

Double over one end (or both) a tiny bit so you can get a easy to find/pull end for easy removal...

Thanks so much guys!  I used the tape for sensitive skin AND chaptick and everything went wonderfully.  Very Happy
I really appreciate the advice...and the fact that I didn't have to pull my lips off!!!
