Post Terrible Sleep Study
I've been reading this forum for awhile.  I went to my first sleep study on 1 May.  I didn't sleep at all.  Not even 5 minutes.  It was about the longest night of my life.  I know I snore and my kids tell me I stop breathing when I sleep but if I can't sleep during the study I can't get the help I need.  The tech told me if I come back to make sure the doctor gives me something to help me sleep.  Right now I'm not sure my insurance will pay for another sleep study.  I'm going to call them on Monday to see if that's an option.  I'm really disappointed that nothing will come of the first study and I will just continue to go on being tired all the time and falling asleep at work.

I suspect your insurance will cover another study.  Besides, it covers a second study anyhow, the titration study, where they test you again but with cpap.

But it would be a good idea for your doctor to prescribe a sleep medication for the study.  Sleep medications do make the condition worse, but worse is relative.  They need you to be asleep, at least part of the time, and if a sleep med is what it takes, it's a good idea.  You might also call the sleep study center to ask about the insurance, if you can't get an answer from your insurance directly.

I know you're disappointed, but don't give up.  And let us know how things go.

I wonder if you were tested at home ??? If not, that may  be something to discuss with your doctor in case there will be another test ...

Why exactly couldn't you sleep?  Strange place?  Anxiety?

Isn't it funny that we struggle to stay away at work, yet you can be up all night from stress!

I would want to try something specific for sleep such as Ambien, Ambien CR, Lunesta or, is it Rozarem? I would NOT want one of the older "sleep remedies" that were/are anti-depressants, anti-anxiotics or anti-convulsants. They DO affect sleep study results. Ambien, Lunesta, etc. are MUCH less likely too.

AND I would want an extra tablet or two to try at home first a few nights before the new sleep study JUST IN CASE you are one of the FEW who have a "different" reaction to them such as NOT being able to sleep or whatever.

I sure wouldn't want my first night w/a new med to be the same night as my sleep study - especially having "failed" to sleep the first try at a sleep evaluation. I'd wanna make sure the darn stuff worked and the time to try another if it didn't!

The room was too warm. So warm i had to throw off the covers. ugh!!

i think the tech said i fell asleep a couple times but not for very long.. I'd sleep for 30 minutes then wake up.
