 Help, Regular or Auto CPAP?
I went in to get my CPAP today, but I wanted the auto cpap but the script was just for a regular standard pressure one. My insurance will cover what ever the script says, and I want the auto one. I asked the therapist to call the doc and see if he would change the script. The therapist said that it really makes no difference with the "ramp up" pressure, and the auto type machines are only prescribed to those who cannot handle the regular cpap machine. Also, the sleep study tech said if I had a choice to get the auto.
So I'm a little confused, can I get some input from users here?

You've had some responses to this same question in the Sleep Apnea Help forum. Tho the responses would have been more appropriately posted here I fail to see the need to double the posts.

I'm pretty new here, and I posted on the other board before I realized there was a "cpap mask/cpap machine" question thread. So I thought I would repost here, and don't know if there were anyway to move a posts. Thanks for the great info though. Much appreciated. I'm in St. Joseph MI btw.

Ha! I used to live in Dowagiac and Cassopolis!!! I'm up near Saginaw. Next time I make a run to or thru Chicago I'll have to wave as I go past St Joe on I-94!!!! Matter of fact, I whizzed by St Joe on the 12th on my way to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

You don't take the ferri at Muskegon over? Seems like with gas prices, it might be cheaper, and save time?

You know, I've often thought of taking the ferry over. But it never seemed to figure out to be cheaper gas or time-wise. Do you take the ferry often or at all? M-46 is a bear to travel, 2 lanes all the way and gobs of small towns to go thru. My neighbor likes to go to Rochester, MN thru the UP 'cause of all the casinos on the way. *sigh* Its about a 12 hour drive via the Chicago route. Hubby and I will usually overnight in Rockford, IL. Neighbor likes to overnight just west of Escanda at the casino there. I think she said it was 13 hours to Rochester thru the UP. I don't quite buy that!

 Ha! Again!
My wife and I were in Benton Harbor today picking up my Dingy at Wolf's Marine. Small, small world eh?
We live on our 42' mahogany Chris Craft in the summer months and visit St Joe often.

p.s. just to keep this in the Apnea forum... we have no need of humidification while on the boat.

LOL, yes it is a small world. Sounds like a beautiful ship. I dream of getting a sail boat someday. I've lived in St. Joe for about 5 years, and love the area in the summer. Just long winters. I'm sure I would pretty much live on it in the summer also. Also, I know Bill Wolf the owner of the Marina. He's a good guy and has done alot for the community.

I haven't taken it, I just knew it was there, and thought it wouild be shorter, and cheaper? They're were plans of putting a ferry here in St. Joe to Chicago Navy Pier, but then the soaring gas prices put it on hold. I would love to have on here one day. My son and I will take day trips to Chicago. We'll drive to Michigan City, hop on the South Shore, then take the free trollies and make a fun cheap day.
BTW, got my auto cpap today. A restronics M series, very nice, very quite, and I'm going to try the ResMes Mirage Swift II for the mask. I'm looking forward to getting started on it.

Wow first night on CPAP and it went very well. Not getting too excited, but that was the best nights sleep I've had in a long time. I only woke up once, and feel pretty darn good today. So far so good!

Congratulations on the good night's sleep!!! May you have many many more such restful nights!
We used to go to Niles and take the train into Chicago. Gads' I LOVED riding the El thru the loop! Riverview was still there back then. LOVED the Museum of Science & Industry. Man! You could spend a WEEK there and still not see everything! I remember their bringing the U 505 German sub from the Lake across Lake Shore Drive to the museum for exhibition!!! I was so impatient for it to be opened to the public! The underground working coal mine! Was it Shedd Aquarium? And the Planetarium. And the two zoos .... my uncle worked for the Chicago Tribune and my other uncle worked for the Board of Trade so they were great tours too. And looking across the Lake on a clear day and seeing Michigan! There is so much to see and do in Chicago! Ooops! Almost forgot the White Sox stadium. And Maxwell Street was still in existence then. What a wonderful place. How fascinating! Oh, the first-run movie theaters, mustn't forget them! Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was the first one I saw. Lunch at Riccardo's on Chicago's "Gold Coast"! THAT was an impressive event, sitting out in the sunshine at our table on the sidewalk.
