Keeping Light Out of Eyes?

Post Keeping Light Out of Eyes?
I tried out CPAP for the first time last night...and surprisingly, the ultra mirage full face mask fit fine with no leaks(up to 12 cm H2O). The problem was I'm used to wearing an eye mask every night, and couldn't keep the light out of my eyes, so I only stayed in bed for about 3 hours. My roommate is basically nocturnal, so there's light in my room 24/7. I cannot sleep for more than a 2 hours with light...it feels more like a nap than a night's sleep. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to block out light with a full face mask?

I'm thinking of trying out the hybrid, as it might let me wear an eye mask as I normally do. The ultra mirage full face just sealed so well the first night though, so I was hoping there was something I could do to block out the light with it.

That was so much simpler than I expected Shocked . But really, is there any danger in having your head completely under the covers while using a full face mask?

I was sleeping with me head under the covers this past winter, and I use a FF mask.  I was waking up feeling kind of odd, a little nauseated and light headed.  I woke up in the middle of  the night with my heavy covers blocking the exhaust port, so I bought some warmer pajamas , and made an effort to keep the covers away from my face.  Problem solved.  I have a seizure disorder, so YMMV.  Is this roomate one of your friends or someone you got stuck with in a dorm? It might be a good idea to sit down with him/her and discuss ways you two can live in the same space . Maybe you could split the difference and agree to lights out for 4 hours a night , so you can get a little sleep at least.  Virginia

Hi Mike, I don't have a quattro but use a full face mask too.  I'm not particularly good at sleeping with an eye mask, so when I want to block the light I wear a knit cap that I can pull down over my eyes.  The exhaust vent on the mask is not blocked but my eyes are covered well enough to block the light.  And the top of my head is warmer, an additional boon in a cool room.

Hope this helps, Blessings,

I make sure the exhaust port isn't blocked therefore diving under the covers isn't a problem.  After all, there is fresh air streaming into your face.

Thats one of the few benefits of CPAP.  You can stay under the covers due to the "snorkel effect" of air being fed to you from elsewhere.

Kinda like this guy.
