Post Anyone have THIS happen?
I drempt I had air blowing in my mouth and nose and I could not breathe.  I woke up terrified and my mask (Mirage Swift II nasal pillows) was blowing out air everywhere.  I guess it had slipped off.  So, I'm thinking I could not breathe for a moment or something.  I'm starting to get REALLY discouraged with this WHOLE THING.  Some days I feel its working and other days I feel tired as hell.  And at night sometimes I have to take off the mask becuase I am so uncomfortable.  I want it to work so bad!  But this is bordering just AWFUL.  Sad

It takes a while. Took me over 2 mos just to find the right mask and a while longer to finally get used to everything until I started to notice the changes.

As for dreams, I've dreamt I was in a hurricane and another time it was a tornado. Both times the mask was off and blowing my face. Oh, and once I was next to a jet plane.

I never had my mask fall off (or took it off, like some have done). But it did take me about 4 months to get "into the swing of things" with my mask, to the point that I didn't spend time during the night adjusting it. I don't know that it should or does take that long for others, but I'm just glad now to be at peace with the mask.

I use the Swift...haev used it for 4 years now.  I had a problem the first week but then I hooked the hose to my top strap buckle....at the junction of the 2 hoses.  The mask comes with an elestic type, blue vlecro piece that is about 4 inches long..I use that.  This seems to keep everything in place...helps hold the pillows on for a better seal too.

hmmm velcro piece?  I think I did see that and didn't know what it was for...now don't know what I did with it!  s#!@.  Thanks for the advice.  Nice to know I'm not alone in this.  Just so frustrating!!  I just want to sleep all night with it and not worry about it.  Rolling Eyes

Did I mention I have a scab right under my nose?  Did you get this?

Post Getting Used to Nasal Pillows
Regina35, I have the same mask, and it took me about two months to get really comfortable with it.  Every time I moved I had to readjust the position or fit of the mask.

One thing that helped me was buying the PadaCheek fleece pads that slide over the cheek straps. They are so comfortable against my cheeks and I don't have any mask-mark swooshes on my cheeks in the morning any more.  Every once in a while I'll wake up with air blowing somewhere -- either the mask got loose or my mouth fell open and air was rushing out.

But I generally sleep very well all night.  I've started having dreams again, but not about wind!  Usually about my boss being a jerk.

If you have a scab right beneath your nose, it's probably from the pillows-frame pressing against that spot.  If you can, loosen your top strap a bit.  And if you can find that little strap with the velcro, it works well at holding the short tube in place against your head straps.

Right now I have a little scab on the underside of the end of my nose - I don't know if it's from the pillows or just a pimple.  I've had my machine for 4 months and I just noticed my pillows are getting really soft, like they are ready to tear.  What they say about replacing every 3 months must be true -- I need to shop for new ones.

Don't give up - it gets better!

I had to take off the mask again last night.  I think the most I'm sleeping with it on is two hours.  I can't seem to do anymore!!  Thanks for all the tips.  Keep them coming.

I have the nasal mask and took it off a couple of times, but knew I did it. I've also undone the velcro straps fussing with it in a semi-sleep state.

I also have the scab under my nose, which is getting better. I may have had the straps too tight, I also pulled it down lower on my nose and it is much better and healing nicely.

I started out with the Mirage activa, and had similar problems with it..... waking up with air blowing all over,    out of place ....etc.

I tried the quatro for a week and had a whole new set of challenges (calling them challenges is just being kind. I HATED it.) with that one.
So I went back to the Activa, using a chinstrap and humidifier. It's works for me now much better than before, though I'm not sure why.

I think sometimes, it's a matter of perspective, based on some bad experiences.

If you don't know what to expect, then small issues can seem HUGE. (I'm in no way trying to minimize the discomfort you felt. I've been there.)

If you can, experiment a little and cruise the forum to read about other people's experiences.
Just knowing that other people are experiencing the same challenges can help you look at it from a different angle sometimes.
Hang in there..... it WILL get better.
