Post Fisher & Paykel SleepStyle 600
I am wondering if there are others out there using the same CPAP device as I am (Fisher & Paykel SleepStlye 600) and what your experience is with it.  I'm a recently diagnosed SA patient and have had my machine and nasal pillow mask for less than a week now.  I've been reading posts here from users of other devices that actually record leakage data.  I don't believe my particular machine does this, or if if does, how to find the information.  Occasionally, when switching over to my left side (my dominant sleeping side), I have to twitch my nose to get the nasal pillows to set correctly; otherwise, I can experience some minor leakage over my upper lip (very minimal, I think).  I have the machine sitting on the floor and set the heat for the humidity at 2.0 instead of the 2.5 preset.  I've had no experiences with "rain out".  Other users of this device, please share your experiences.  Thanks!  REALLY looking forward to a good night's rest! Applause

I don't have the SleepStyle 600, rather I have the SleepStyle 234. My model is similar to yours except that it lacks the heated hose. Your model and mine do not show leak data, nor will they provide information about apeas/hypopneas during treatment. These models are quiet, well-built, have 2 year warrantees and are better at reducing rainout, especially with the heated hose, than other models (although rainout is a variable problem and not everyone has serious problems with rainout regardless of what model of CPAP they may own).

I believe your model does provide 2 indirect measures of leakage. The most obvious, which is true of all CPAPs with humidifiers, is that the greater your leak rate is the more moisture you will lose through your humidifier. The other potential sign of leakage that your model soes provide lies in the readout. The readout's reading for total hours of use will reflect the number of hours your machine is running. But your average number of hours per night will be based on the machine's calculation of the average number of hours the machine was running and the mask or nasal pillows were on (calculated for the past 30 days or for as long as you've used the machine if less than 30 days). If you see a drop in your average hours of use that does not agree with the number of total hours you have used the machine, this may be a sign that you are having leak problems.

Hope this is of some help. Good luck and best wishes,
Bill

Post I've been using the FP for more than 18 months
I haven't experienced a single problem. I even upended it twice while it was full of water. The electrified hose seems to work since I haven't had any rainout problems. It's a good product and I'd recommend it.  Good luck!

read the manual but I'll go back and read it.  I didn't see anything that idicated it would detect leakage.  I'm getting really discouraged here.  It seemed I was starting to get adjusted to wearing the mask and using the machine (getting average of 5 hours sound sleep), but now that's deteriorated.  Two nights ago, I only got 4 hour and last night it was 3.  Last night was the worst, where I couldn't fall back asleep at all, so I took off the gear, went to the recliner in the livingroom, put on the vibrate/massage and finally fell back asleep after about an hour. How on earth do I function getting fragmented sleep like this?  Would this indicate that perhaps this mask isn't working for me?  I would think that after a week and 2 days, I would be somewhat "adjusted" to using this.  I didn't take a whole sleeping pill last night because I'm getting concerned about getting "hooked" on drugs plus, my daughter-in-law is due any day now and if we're going to have the chance of getting called in the middle of the night, I don't want to be drugged-out.  Any suggestions, as I'm ready to call it quits here.... Sad

The feature I mentionned does not specifically target leakage and provides no real data about leakage rates. However, this feature does provide indirect evidence for leak problems assuming that the leakage is significant enough to cause the machine to think that the mask is off with the blower on. However other problems could cause the same result (chiefly, having the mask off while the machine is still running-accidentally or on purpose, or a glitch in the system used to determine this difference).

You may be one of those for whom the value of CPAP may reveal itself only gradually despite your faithful use. It took me about 6 weeks before I really felt the full benefit.

Best wishes,
Bill

Smile  Thanks, Bill.  I finally am sleeping halfway decently.  A couple nights after posting my question, I managed to get 9 hours of wonderful sleep, with dreams coming one right after another.  I cannot tell you the last time I had a dream!  The next evening, I got 8 hours and the following, it was down to 6 and then about 5.  The 5 and sometimes 6 are happening on work nights.  I think part of the problem now is that due to having to drink LOTS of fluids (I have only 1 kidney), a nightly trip to the restroom cannot be avoided.  Once I get up, I do find it difficult to get back to a sound sleep.  I try to stop drinking after dinner, but it doesn't make much difference.  I'm not giving up, though, because right now, 5 hours is MUCH better than the 3 I was getting before.  Regards!
