I got my CPAP in December 2006.  Since then, I haven't slept a night without it.  I had forgotten the symptoms of sleep apnea until they began to reappear.  First people saying I looked tired, then more frequent waking, next vivid and disturbing dreams, next waking tired, and finally falling asleep at red lights.  So I have an appointment to see the provider who will check to see if the CPAP itself is put together correctly and so on.  The next step will be to see my physician.  I presume he will request a new sleep study.  My question is this:  I have lost 50 pounds since getting the CPAP.  If the result is that I need a lower pressure setting, would that need cause the symptoms I have described?  Or what else could be causing this "relapse"?  Just want to go to my physician informed.

If your weight loss has caused a reduction in your required pressure, it may be possible that the pressure is inducing central apneas.

Bearded One is exactly right. CPAP has been my best friend since Nov. '05. I had gastric bypass in Dec. '07...down 70 lbs(93 lbs down from highest weight) have been tired again. Going for a sleep study on 4/24 'cause my pulmonologist thinks my pressure is too high and causing central apneas.

Hey,
I'm new to this I just was wondering how you lost so much weight.
Have you been really trying or is because of the Cpap machine?

I've been doing Weight Watchers since October 2006.  Got my CPAP in December 2006.  There is never just one factor in success at changing your life style.  WW is a good program that includes healthy food and regular exercise.  Also I have a variety of very supportive people in my life, including the good friend who got me into WW in the first place and who continues to stand by me.  However, my doctor agrees that the CPAP may be one reason why I have been successful this time when I wasn't before.  One side affect of sleep apnea is weight gain because of a slowing metabolism.  I know that my weight loss has slowed since the CPAP has not been as affective for me.  I'm getting the pressure changed tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to better sleep again and hopefully I'll see that on the scales as well.  I'd encourage you to find eating and exercise plans that fit you and stick to it.  You may find that you can be more successful than you have in the past, now that you are sleeping better.

Bearded One...my Pulmonologist let me adjust my pressure down to 13...and I feel a TON better. But still having my study on the 24th. Robing...I had gastric bypass done in Dec and thats reason for weight loss. My only regret...why did I wait so long before doing it.

I was on 15 cm...so right now 13 is doing me well. The answer will come on the 24th. I wish more insurance companies would just approve APAPs but...its about the almighty dollar/profit margin.
