 CPAP masks
I'm having one hell of a time finding a mask that does not cause a blister on the bridge of my nose.I started with pillows but I breath through my mouth so I went with a full face, but I cannot get one that does not cause a cut and blister on my nose. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good mask without the blister and cut problems?

There's another kind of mask for mouth breathers. It uses nasal pillows and covers the mouth. That way, you can breathe normally and not have those nose blister problems. There are two: one is called the Hybrid (forget the manufacturer name), and the other is the Resmed Liberty. Both cover the mouth but use nasal pillows. There are slight differences, so if you contact your supplier, you might ask to see both of them.

 Re. Cpap masks
If you mask is making a blister it is way too tight... Another mask to consider is a quattro made by Resmed... The liberty is a resmed mask also but depending on your pressure the nasal pillows are hard to keep in...
I would look to have your mask refitted by someone who knows how to fit cpap masks and maybe a nasal mask with a chin strap would also help you...
Comfort Gel and Profile Lite are good Nasal masks.. I am an RT and I put 75% of my patients on those 2 masks...
Good luck

 CPAP Mask
I tried the style with the mouth covered and the nasal pillows and they do not work for me either. What I really need is a full face that sits higher on the nose.My RT has tried everything to help me ,my problem is that I move around a lot when I sleep due to arthritis problems and the pillows lose their seal.I'm going to try and let my nose heal for a week or so and then get fitted with a full face again.Maybe the problem is my nose was sore when I tried my last mask. Any suggestions on what I should try in a full face?

Im only a month into my CPAP, so take this with the grain of salt its intended with... but I started with a ComfortGel, and have had a very difficult time with it. Seemed like either I wound up with open sores on the bridge of my nose, or I had massive leaks, especially blowing up towards my eyes. I have occasionally found adjustments that worked for a night or two, then I would be back in trouble again.
Im expecting a OptiLife soon (actually thought I would receive it today, but it didnt come)... not much help for a mouth breather, but hopefully will end the battles for me. I know there is a thread for favorite masks - personally I think it would be really helpful if we could find a way to classify best masks by WHATEVER are the indications (nasal vs mouth breather, maybe face size, sleeping position... too inexperienced to know what those really should be).

Well there are several you can try.. Resmed makes the Quattro and the Ultra Mirage FF mask... Respironics makes the Comfortfull And a Comfortfull 2 mask... Sleepnet makes the Mojo gel FF mask... Soyala also makes a FF mask... Hope this helps...

Finding the right mask is half the battle for new cpap patients... I have myself many patients I see every 3 months to resupply and some change masks every so often... The best advice is stick with it you will find the mask for you... A lot of people give up before they see the results that will benefit them in the end...

Thanks, I sense that is VERY true. Im optimistic that the OptiLife will be a lot better for me. Having said that, Ive had another two good nights with my ComfortGel - maybe Im just not very good at adjusting yet!

jshanl,
As Linda suggested, you might try the resmed liberty or the hybrid mask. They are nasal masks that work for mouthbreathers. I tried the liberty for part of my titration and didn't have a problem although the headgear seemed a little cumbersome. I've never tried the hybrid, but I have seen a discussion comparing the hybrid and the liberty. You might try google, hybrid versus liberty, or something like that.
As an alternative, you might try resmed's mirage quattro full faced mask. It might be easier on your nose and forehead than some of the other ff masks. I use it as a backup to my swift nasal. Some people have trouble with the quattro leaking. I haven't had that problem but I've only slept with it for a week or so.
Good luck and, by all means, don't give up. Getting the mask right was by far and away my biggest problem. It takes some experimenting and hopefully your insurance or DME or whatever allow you 30 days or so to make a final decision.
