Your body will do whatever it takes to resume breathing. The danger of sleep apnea is in the long-term health effects as well as accidents caused by the daytime sleepiness.

Of course, you don't really want to sleep like a baby. Babies wake up every few hours and cry.  Wink

Good luck w/your titration study! We'll all be pulling for to you take to CPAP like a duck to water and sleep will during your titration. But don't be heartbroken if you don't. As long as you get at least two hours of sleep out of six hours bedtime they'll get enough data to get you started on CPAP therapy at home. So RELAX!

Spend some time reading about the various xPAPs and their capabilities and indicate on the paperwork you fill out and sign before the titration that you want to discuss the various equipment options available to you and come to a mutal agreement w/the ordering doctor WHICH equipment will be ordered BEFORE the order is placed.

If you were interested, motivated and innovative enough in your sleep problems and sleep apnea and CPAP therapy to find this site then you will almost certainly NOT be satisfied w/the usual compliance data capable only xPAP that will meet your doctor's necessary criteria that the local DME supplier will most likely opt to provide you with. You will want to ensure that you get a fully data capable xPAP.

There is no need for you to necessarily insist on a particular brand and model, just that you have a couple of models in mind that will meet both your doctor's criteria and your own. Don't get too hung up on wanting an autoPAP. There are some nice benefits to them, but, they are not a necessity. And most who get an autoPAP use it most all the time in straight CPAP mode anyway. It is the DATA AVAILABILITY that you will want to insist on.

You are paying for your equipment, either thru your insurance or out of pocket, and have the right to REFUSE to accept a bare-bones, compliance data capable only CPAP. Call your insurance company yet today, or tomorrow at the latest, and ask them what local DME CPAP suppliers they are contracted with. Hopefully you will have the option of more than one. If the first won't agree to provide a fully data capable CPAP, one of the others surely will. You can pit one against the other, if necessary, to get a fully data capable CPAP and a LENIENT mask exchange policy (should you need the latter and quite likely you will).

Good luck and God bless!

I used to set people up on home CPAPs when I did home care and Respironics machines were pretty much all we used. Most of the machines out there are pretty good, but Respironics machines are my favorites for ease of use and maintanance and also for the smart card system they have. They're one of the pricier machines out there, though, and if you're paying out of pocket, a cheaper brand will get the job done, but I sill like the Respironics brand best. Just my opion of course.  Very Happy
