I just received my sleep study results and I can't get an appointment with my doctor for a while, so I need some help understanding the results.
Findings: No epileptiform changes were seen on the EEG.
Sleep architecture was characterized by a normal sleep onset latency after a bedtime of 10:48 p.m. REM sleep latency was prolonged. REM sleep volume was significantly diminished. Slow-wave sleep was seen on this study. Overall sleep efficiency was low at 79%, where normal is greater than 85%. The patient slept for 6 hours out of the 7 hour study.
Breathing was characterized by variable intensity snoring and discrete obstructive apneas and hypopneas at a rate of 2 per hour and additional respiratory event-related arousals raising the overall respiratory disturbance index to 22 per hour. Obstructive respiratory events are accompanied by arousal. Low oxygen saturation was 91%.
EKG demonstrates some PACs. Obstructive respiratory events were concentrated supine, but still significant non-supine. Leg kicking movements were rare on this study.
Impression: This 1-night polysomnogram demonstrates a clinical significant obstructive sleep-disordered breathing. Treating obstructive sleep-disordered breathing and chronic insufficient sleep quantity is recommended.
Does this mean I have sleep apnea? Will I have to get a CPAP? Thanks so much for answering, I really appreciate all your help.
