 First Sleep Study
Hi, I'm a newbie here. Was referred to the sleep clinic and had my first sleep study last night. I really couldn't sleep well at all because of the wires and stuff and feel absolutely beat up this morning. On my initial evaluation with my neuro, he believed I had sleep apnea because of the size of my tongue so I assume I'm going back next week for the 2nd study.

If called back for a titration study ask the sleep lab about your taking a sleep aid such as Ambien for the titration. If they okay it, then ask your family doctor for a couple of Ambien samples to try at home before the titration to be sure that it works for you.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually had to sign something prior to going to the lab stating that if they gave me an oral sleep aid then I could not drive home...Liability purposes I guess.

 Sleep Study
just had my first study which wasn't to bad , just took forever to get to sleep as usual, I've dealt with apnea about 6 months (known) about it, other then that I haven't a clue when it may have started I know prior to it getting worse I'd wake up an absolute mess, felt like going back to sleep or just not doing nothing at all that day. Anyway the study indicated my AHI (Apnea Hypopnea Index) is 36 if I did the math correctly thats 288 times I had apneaic episodes in one night
Saturday I have the cpap study which after that there sending a apnea monitor home along with the cpap of course, So I can relate to others that have this can absolutely make you think you're losing you're mind or whats left of it :)

Thanks for sharing. I really think I've had sleep apena for years and just got used to feeling like !@#! every morning but the more I saw that I the same symptoms I figured I'd need to do something about it. I'd wake up sweating with my heart pounding then I'd stay awake for the rest of the night. Anyway, I haven't got my numbers back yet but I've been busy at work....I'm making the call today to see what's up.

Called the MD's office yesterday and they do not have my results yet. I'm set for the 2nd study on Monday and they told me to go keep the appointment. I'll go and see what happens. I just hope I can get some sleep with the mask on. I struggled just with all the wires.

Yes, unfortunately I know but hopefully I'll sleep better there this time than I did before. Wish me luck. I'll post when I'm done.

Had my second study done on Monday with the CPAP machine. I actually did pretty well, my sleep technician was great and he gave me a bunch of mask options and I went with one that was the most comforable for me. He actually went over the results from my first night the week before. He told me that I had 10 apnea episodes per hour. I still haven't spoken to my neurologist yet.
After he wired me up and set me up on the machine, I slept like a rock!!!! I woke up one time during the night and a pressure adjustment was made but after that it was all good. The tech told me I did as well as anyone could after the adjustment was made and my oxygen level was perfect. So, I'm pretty happy about that. The next day I felt great at work and had tons of energy. I haven't felt like that in years!!!! I just got a call yesterday from the home care people and they are coming this afternoon to set up my machine at home. Can I tell you, I can't wait!!!! I'm just looking forward to get that level of energy back. The thing that sucked was that I had to wait a few days until they come out and I was able to see the difference of how I've felt in the morning over the past couple of years compared to one night with the machine. Now I think I've got the darn thing licked.
I'll post during the weekend after I've tried the machine out. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding machine options?

Ok, my RT came to the house on Friday to set up my machine and fit me with mask. It seemed pretty simple. The first night it took some getting used to with the mask on all night but I committed myself to it. I finally got to sleep and when I woke up the next morning I felt awesome!!!! The most energy I've had in years, just a serious difference in how I've physically felt in a long time. Last night was the second night with it and I think I'm used to it now. I slept better than the first night and felt great in the morning. If I felt this great in 2 days, just imagine a couple of weeks or a month??? I'm getting excited!

Hello trubaj!
Great news!!! I wish all folk that need to use CPAP would have an experience such as yours! Please consider posting in the "Success Stories" thread? It is the third post (first "Sticky Post") in the main forum.
Oh, one other thing. Don't be surprised if at some point it all goes to hades in a handbasket This happens to nearly everyone at some time or another. Mask wears out, get an 'identical' mask and it doesn't fit the same, won't quit leaking or hurts nose. Or the body seems to rebel against the great sleep and keeps you up all night for good measure. Or any number of other silly or not so silly reasons... The point is, if this should happen to you, just remember how CPAP is supposed to be, do your homework and locate the source of the trouble, fix it and move on.
May you be one of the lucky few that never has a bad night on CPAP! Blessings,

Thanks Pseudo...
So far so good. But I also expect the bad and the ugly with the good so I think by managing my own expectation I'll be ok. I'll go ahead and post in the success stories thread as you've suggested. This has been a great support network here and I've learned a lot by reading posts in other forums. Thanks to all for sharing....
