George, whenever I use my REMstar Auto, I download the data regularly to my computer with Encore Pro software. Unless you download from the Smart Card every 5 days or so, you start losing the oldest of the FULL reports - the data with daily details. Compliance data is retained much longer - for months. But "compliance" only means how many hours the machine has been used and is worthless info, imho. Compliance is what the insurance company is interested in to prove you're using the machine enough to warrant their paying the DME rental charge. You already know if you're using your machine regularly or not.
The Full details are probably what you're interested in. The charts and tables for each night will show the AHI for each night, number of apneas, hypopneas, leak graph, etc. And, if you have an autopap, what pressures had to be used. To be sure you weren't letting a single night get overwritten by newer detailed data, you would have to download from the Smart Card about every five days. Each time you do a download, the file is automatically saved in that computer. Yes, you can print the pages. You can also do a "save as" to save the download as a PDF file if you want to attach your data file to an email to send someone.
Do you have the software and the card reader? You're welcome to PM me.
"Compliance" (number of hours of use...no other details) is all that is recorded on the Smart Card by the REMstar Plus machine, and the Pro (with no "2" in its name.) To get the juicy full details, you need to have the REMstar Pro 2 (straight cpap machine) or the REMstar Auto (autopap machine), or the new REMstar Auto BiPAP (combo autopap/bipap). If you're using a Respironics bilevel machine, the BiPAP Pro does not give anything more than compliance. The BiPAP Pro 2 gives full details.
