I am new at using a CPAP machine and wonder if you can just "top up" the water container on the humidifier OR must you rinse it out and start with all new distilled water each night?

Topping off the water container is just fine.  
We all do that.  
Distilled water will keep the container clean a long time.
Most of us just keep a jug of it near the machine or bed.
It's that awful tap water which will muck it up in no time!

A little bit of tap water got into my tubing after cleaning.  It wasn't completely dry.  When I turned on the machine, the tap water actually made my entire nose and sinus area BURN unbelievably!  Keep using the distilled water (or a good reverse osmosis form of water).
