Post I use one and it worked for me
I have been surfing Apnea information because I just found out my son is snoring and I came across this forum.  I have some experience information that may be of some help to some of you.  I suffered from a severe case of apnea.  Would wake up at night because my throat was blocked.  I almost died one day while undergoing minor surgery and I negleted to tell the surgeon I had sleep apnea and I was put under for the procedure.  After all this happened to me I was determined to find help.  I went under two sleep studies, had surgery to reduce the size of my aeola, sorry about the spelling, and that did not help.  I was finally given a cpap machine.  I used it for two years and I couldn't be more miserable with it.  Finally, I started to wake up in the morning with my stomach full of air.  To say the least, I was miserable with all these help aids.  One day my neighbor who was near 300 pounds and had sleep apnea worse then I did and who had been sleeping on the couch because his snoring almost shook the house, came up to me with a smile and told me he no longer snores and he can now sleep with the wife.  I asked him what he did and he told me of a dentist that fit him with a dental mouth piece.  Needless to say I made a bee line to that dentist.  He fit me with the adjustable device and I no longer snore and I never sleep without it.  I have not had a disturbed night of sleep since I had it which is more than seven years now.  I no longer wake up tired and I for one can say it worked for me.  It was not cheap.  It cost over $2000.00 because they have to make a mold and a laboratory makes it.  My insurance compay paid 80% because I was able to show I had tried everything else and nothing worked.  I hope this information is of some help to those who are trying to find out what help is available.

can you tell us what kind of oral appliance are you using, since there are so many different ones; where did you have this appliance made? have you had a sleep study while using the oral appliance? if you had one, did they detect more apneas?  Rolling Eyes

I'm afraid I will not be of much help with your question.  Since the mouth piece was made over seven years ago I assume it was one of the earliest versions.  The adjustments are made by the dentist with the small screws on the side.  No I have not had a new sleep study.  I felt it was not necessary since all the reasons I went for it in the first place was no longer a problem.  I no longer snore, I don't wake up at night and I don't wake up in the morning tired.
