Post alternative approaches to treating sleep apnea?
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has had success treating obstructive sleep apnea with alternative medicine (for ex. acupuncture, homeopathy etc).  I read the posts about hypnosis and read something about chiropractic not having been tried much.

Given that Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is caused by a physical obstruction, it is unlikely that acupuncture or homeopathy could have a positive effect.

Alternative type treatments have proven unsuccessful.
I seem to hear a lot of complaints of 'waste of money'. Have not heard of any successes.
OSA is caused by a blockage of some type and requires mechanical intervention.

Buteyko breathing is not an even plausible alternative therapy.  Within all peer reviewed scientific articles currently published there is absolutely not a single peer reviewed publication in regards to Buteyko breathing and Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

Additionaly, a Pubmed search (see my Interesting Links post about scientific seaches) brings up quite a few articles on Buteyko breathing and asthma, but two of the most recent peer reviewed publications list it as, in the context of asthmatics, "pseudoscience".

Sorry, don't waste money, don't mess with your health or lives, use treatments which have shown to be effective.
