Applause Mark Martin is my hero.

Hello again, Gino!

Isn't he, though?!  I wanted him to win the championship so bad this year. I have a few "favorite" drivers, but always cheered for Mark to win races if he had a chance.

In the words of the drivers and announcers, "I'll tell you whaaat ...", Mark Martin was the best blocker in the series. If he got the lead during the final laps, there was no way anyone could get buy him, yet he didn't wreck anyone to get the win. I know he hated the restrictor-plate races, but I think they're the best!

I'm in New England, and have been following NASCAR since 1985. Are you in the South?

Cool I guess when I signed up, I should have said I am from Kentucky. Some think Kentucky is southern, but I am in Louisville which is certainly midwestern( like a smaller St. Louis or much smaller Chicago or Kansas City).   We have one problem though - we eat and love Southern fried food and therefore many are overweight and some obese. We seem to have a lot of cpap use. Per capita, I bet cpap use in this city ranks as one of the highest. I have been to the brick yard several times and there is no experience as hearing and seeing those forty three cars coming down trying to get up to speed.

I watch NASCAR every week and also was really hoping Mark would win the championship.  It was his last chance.  But who knows... maybe he'll race one more year.

My favorite driver is Michael Waltrip (who hasn't been faring very well lately.)

Weren't the awards a riot?

Gino,

You're right. There's nothing like the crowd and the sound of those cars going around the track. My first Cup race was at Dover Downs back in the 80s when the "good ol' boys" were racing. Put it this way: Richard Petty led the first lap as a courtesy since it was his last year. I think Harry Gant won the race.

I've been to Loudon twice a year for quite some time. One of the most boring races on the circuit, especially live as opposed to television. I was lucky enough to get pit passes to the garage area. Man, talk about taking your life in your hands! If you don't move, they will run you over without liability. Really cool though. I even had a few teams take a picture with me. Of course, they have to be nice to the folks visiting the garage because most of them are corporate sponsors, and you never know who they are.

hhopper,

Michael Waltrip is a hoot! Just like his brother. He did pretty good for a while, then just couldn't seem to do anything right. I never miss the Awards Banquet. Funny to see the drivers in a tuxedo. It used to be less scripted, but now it is so obvious that they are ready a teleprompter.

For me, I'm a diehard Earnhardt fan (Sr. and Jr.) and was devastated when Sr. was killed. Even though Harvick is in the Goodwrench car, I can't bring myself to like him. I have grown to like Stewart. Always cheer for "cutie pie" Kasey Kahne. I just read that Ricky Rudd is back next year driving for Yates. I like him as well.

Never liked "whining Rusty", but respected him. Hate Jeff and Robby Gordon, Kurt and Kyle Busch, Johnson, and any other driver who intentionally retaliates on the track. These guys could kill each other!

Wow! Did this become winded!

Have a good night!

Gino and hhopper,

So tell me ... did Mark get robbed at Daytona or what?

I felt so bad for Waltrip. He was actually boo'd during driver intros. According to Darrell, he was ready to pack it up after he wrecked Jr. during the qualifying race. What a fiasco! Poor Mikey!

I wanted Mark Martin to win that race SO badly...but there are two points of view.  If they had thrown the yellow like they usually do, Mark would have won. However, a lot of people think that at the end of a race, they should hold off on the yellow so the leaders can race to the finish line.

Personally I wish they had thrown the yellow.

Mikey is still my favorite driver.  I doubt very seriously if he had any knowledge of the fuel additive.  Some member of the crew was worried about qualifying since the Toyotas weren't quite fast enough.  I haven't heard yet if the team has investigated the matter and found who the culprit was.  Whoever it is should be fired.

Well, once again, I completely agree.

I also think the yellow should have come out and the field should have been frozen. But then again, the fans want an exciting finish, thus the green, white, checkered rule. Perhaps because the two leaders were ahead of the wreck at the end contributed to NASCAR's decision. I don't know. I thought for sure Mark would win. He's tough to beat ... but alas ...

I also don't think Mike knew what was going on with his car. High publicity relating to Toyota made it even worse. I guess even after they "resolved" the issue, the same substance was found again. I think the fines were out of line ... but that's just my opinion. I agree that whoever was responsible should be fired.

We need the sanctioning body of NASCAR, but even Gordon wasn't aware that he was booted to the back of the field due to his car being too low (I think) during post-inspection after he won the qualifying race. During a press interview, someone told him this, and he said, "Are you kidding me?"

Man, I love this sport!  ;-)

Ditto!  DW cracks me up!  I'll never forget the dance he did after winning the Daytona 500. I miss the "old" guys.  They're what this sport is all about.  However, there is some new talent coming up, but I don't think their hearts are in the racing as much as in the notoriety and the money.  I could be wrong.

Big E is the reason I started following NASCAR in the mid-80s.  As much as I loved him, I know he was hated equally.  No big deal.  The fan base makes the sport, don't you think?

I think he called it the "Icky Shuffle" or something like that.  It was Big "E" that converted me to Nascar addict. His birthday was 2 days ahead of mine. His age didn't dampen any of his determination  and intensity to get the job done. I think that is what inspired me the most about him. He had nothing to prove to anybody; but would still drive as deep into the corner as any of the hot young guns. Applause
