My PCP doc got my insurance to pay for a follow up sleep study and I have it scheduled about three weeks from now. I'm also on their cancel list so hopefully I'll get in sooner. My doctor's assistant called and left voice mail for me stating that I was to stop taking my Provigil two weeks before doing the sleep study. Didn't say why and it's difficult at best to get her on the phone and I suspect she wouldn't have a good answer anyway. After spending some time with Google, I cannot find anyone else receiving this kind of advice.
Not taking Provigil may not be an option. I currently take 400mg per day and it just barely keeps me awake. The fatigue, sleepiness, brain fog, are all still there and if I stop taking Provigil I might as well take a leave of absence from work because I wouldn't be able to function. I'm sure they think the Provigil will keep me up during the study but I have no problem taking 400mg in the morning and having a nap in the afternoon. Nothing keeps me from going to sleep and I will abstain on the day of the sleep study. That's good enough, right? Anyone else told stay away from stimulants for that long before a sleep study? I know my PCP doesn't know much about OSA or sleep studys and I will be taking my results to a sleep specialist, not the PCP.
