Post Face sweating with mask
HI All, thanks for your help so far. I have been using my new cpap for about a week now. I use a resmed ultra mirage full face mask. I have a heated humidifier.

Anyway, twice in the last week I have woken up in the middle of the night with my face soaked in sweat. Of course I removed the mask and went back to sleep.

I know it's not the room temperature as I keep it pretty cold at night.

Has anyone else experienced this problem??

Any input is greatly apperciated.

WM

Yes, Wayne,  any of us who use heated humidification will at some point wake up with moisture in our mask and on our face.  My first response to you is to call your DME(durable medical equipment) provider and ask for their help.  Secondly, I would suggest that you might turn your humidity control down 1/2 a step and see if this helps the situation.  The excess moisture is coming from the humidification.  The moisture is keeping your nasal passages, mouth and throat from drying out and cracking.  There has to be a good balance between enough moisture and too much.  Keep adjusting your humidity control until you are more comfortable.  Please note that as environmental conditions change(summer to fall to winter), your humidification needs will change too so expect to adjust the dial from season to season.  Good Luck and keep up the good work! Very Happy

Post rainout?
You may be experiencing what we call "rainout" which is basically condensation.  A couple of things you can try are 1) put the CPAP machine and humidifier on the floor - with the unit lower than head height, the water should drain back into the humidifier instead of your face or 2) - try turning down the heat on your humidifier.  I notice that during damp or rainy weather that I have to turn the heat on my humidifier lower than on a dry night.

Good luck!

Yeah Thanks, I figured the first thing would be to turn down the humidifier. But. It wasn't as if the mask itself had water in it. It was as if I broke out in some kind of weird sweating.

If you are just warm natured, you might be cooler in nasal pillows than a mask, as there is less skin coverage and contact.

I have to share a post I remember reading years ago, not recommending this, but someone said she put crushed ice in her humdifier (no heat) in the summer for a cooling breeze.  LOL
