 stopped breathing
I also had the issue of stopping breathing, I use a ResMed bipap auto SV, and if you stop breathing it will make you take a breath. It is a really great machine once you learn how to use it, i'm on my 3rd machine in 2 years, the first had a "alarm" problem and was replaced the first week, the second was fine, when my insurance provider changed equipment providers they gave me a new machine, newer model and it is even better. The new provider tried to give me a respironics mask, but I had to go back to a ResMed Quattro. One issue is that the "film" that touches your face has to be washed daily or it becomes oily and then leaks air. My solution was to get 4 of the inserts for the mask (expensive) and I wash them every 4 days. If oily they leak when you stop breathing and the machine forces more pressure to make you take a breath. The down side is I'm slightly claustrophobic so I take a very mild sleeping pill, Temazapam 15 mg, and I sleep thru the night. The mask makes a slight noise so sometimes I use foam ear plugs.
It has taken me 2 years to learn all of this and get to the point that the machine is not an "issue", give it some time and experiment.
Be prepared for your equipment provider to totally unfamiliar with the machine. Even the sleep clinic was learing how to use the machine when I was there.
You may need a humidifier, which is an attchment that slides into the machine, not seperate. I have to use it in the winter as I live in Palm Springs where it is very dry in the winter.
By the way I have Central Sleep Apnea.
Good luck. Jim
