Post I finally had my sleep study last night! Any advice?
All she told me about the results were that I would need a mask and machine.  I assume that means I have sleep apnea.

I will have to meet with the doctor in a couple of weeks to go over the results.   She did the titration(?).

I sure hope I can get used to the mask.  The mask she used during titration really made my face sore!  Does it get easier?

Any advice for a newbie?

I did not have suck luck when I was on cpap I felt my sleep was worse, I could not sleep on my stomach and I would have cuts on the bridge of my nose. I was then switched to a mouth piece with nose plugs this was better but still a pain for a college student.
Good luck

Yes, it does - how long that takes depends on  you, the information you get given by the DME (equipment provider) and the sleep doc, but also on how much you read on this forum. There are some great tips for making it easier to sleep with a mask or nasal pillows, for people sleeping on their sides, backs or stomach, and to reduce the sore nose problems.

Above all, recognize that it is your health you are taking responsibility for when you use the xPAP machine. You need to know what it can do for you, and how you can maximize the benefit.

Good luck, and stay in touch with this forum - it will help you as it is helping me, and probably countless others.

My best advice is to try on as many masks as you can.  I currently am using a nasal mask, but my DME is coming out here tomorrow and she is bringing me a couple of full face masks to try.  The comfort of your mask will make all the difference.

And, if you have to take a sleep aid for the first few days, then do so.  I was reluctant to do that, but it has helped tremendously.

It does get easier.  Last week at this time, I was ready to throw the whole rig in the river and just take my chances with the apnea! (yeah, real mature!).  But last night I actually got about five hours of sleep.  I can't tell you the difference that one night of semi-decent sleep has made.

You can do this.
