I would love to hear from anyone else who has had or heard of the use of a CPAP when the diagnosis is NOT apnea. Or just any comments that you would have to my story (or support! ~ the medical community is treating me like a fickin' leper!)
Back in August I started having throat pain, and soon after some really awful sleep disturbances. Those of you with apnea know... waking dozens of times a night and never feeling rested during the day. I knew there was some sort of airway restriction. I felt I was (and am) struggling to use my throat muscles to keep my airway open, and as soon as I would start to sleep, those muscles would relax and air would be restricted and I'd wake. Well, my GP farted around with diagnosis like sinus infection, virus and even (get this and I kid you not) that it was all in my head. I pressured for a sleep study and a specialist (ENT). I was shocked that the sleep study found no apnea. But, the ENT looked at the study and saw that I had slept better on the CPAP and wrote me a presciption. He also attributed the throat pain and swelling to acid reflux, which I am being treated for now.
However, my GP think that I only slept better on the CPCP because I wanted it to help me. She's fired by the way. And the insurance company won't cover the machine because its not apnea. The nurse that is bringing the machine out today seemed confused and reluctant.
Has ANYONE ever heard of a case of needing CPAP without apnea?
