Post Should I get report first?
Hi All,

Awaiting results of my sleep study. When the MD's office calls to set up appt. to discuss it, should I ask for a copy to be faxed to me? I'm a nurse, so familiar with some of this stuff. Getting it before the appt. would let me read it and then ask questions at the appt. Or would it be better just to wait for the MD to tell me results and get a copy then?

Miss Rumpius,

ABSOLUTELY!  Call your doctor's office and have them fax you a copy.  If you have trouble interpreting it or have questions about it, someone here will be able to help you.  The more knowledgeable you are, the better prepared you will be to discuss the results and options with your physician.  Make notes, highlight, underline, whatever works for you, but be sure to go with the report in hand

Good luck!

You're welcome, Miss Rumphius!

In fact, you could go one step further and call the sleep clinic where you had the study done and ask them to fax you a copy of the study.  They may need you to sign a release form, but they can fax that to you first, you can fax it back to them, and then they can fax you the report.  That's how I got mine as I didn't know at the time of my sleep study that I could have asked for a copy before I went home, but I read afterwards on one of the forums that I could have done so.

Believe me, if there's one thing I've learned through all of this, it's that we have to speak up for ourselves!  After all, it's our health that's at stake.

Take care and have a good evening.
