I want to start going to the gym to get my weight down a bit more, and tone up.

I was wondering whether this is contraindicated with Sleep Apnea? I wouldn't want to put my heart under undue stress, for example.

Your doctor would have to answer that question.  If there is a problem, it would be with any other conditions that were caused by sleep apnea.   In general, as long as you take it easy at first and gradually build up, you shouldn't have any problems.

It hasn't been a problem for me, but depending on your age and physical condition, you might want to get a stress test before your start.

Check w the doc and then go do it.

I alternate between distance running and weight training.  This year I'll be running a half marathon (and turning 60).

Exercise and physical activity make everything you do better.

Good luck getting the "okay".

I'm sure the doc won't say no, but next time I see her I'll ask as a formality.

The key as always is to start out gently and slowly and work your way up to where you want to be. Trying to run 5 miles and lift 100lbs the first time you hit the gym in a long time will be very counterproductive.

Of course, I'm sure you know this, but I just had to reiterate.

I am doing trathlons.  Just like anything else, start out slowly and don't rush things.  It is never a bad idea to check with a doc first.  Especially if your apnea has gone untreated for a long time and you might have some cardiovascular damage.
