Post All of a sudden machine is VERY loud
Turned on my BiPap last night and it was very loud. It used to hum quietly. My machine brand is in my signature. I am in the dark right now and not looking at any info but I think I have a Respironics BiPAP Auto M-Series w/ M-Series Remstar Heated Humidifier. I could have gotten it a tiny bit wet when sliding the water in the humidifier. Its so loud it sounds as if air is leaking from somewhere but I checked all the connections and everything is right. It also dosent seem to be giving me full air through the mask tho maybe it is just my imagination. Any help would be appreciated. Maybe I'll just call my dme when they open...but they areb.t to good at getting back to me right away. Thanx a bunch.
Jules

If you require a bi-level AND oxygen supplementation DO NOT fool around. Call your DME supplier ASAP, and frankly, I would NOT wait for a call back, I would PERSONALLY TAKE my bi-level in to them and insist on a loaner whilst your bi-level is checked out and repaired or replaced. IF they give you any guff or grief and won't give you a loaner, contact Respironics yourself.

How long have you had this Respironics Bi-PAP Auto w/Bi-Flex? They are warranteed for two years - BUT - the entire Respironics M Series is notorious for a very poorly designed integrated humidifier that allows EXACTLY what happened to you as well as the earliest models leaking and damaging the furniture they sit on. The Bi-PAP itself is an EXCELLENT device, its that poorly designed humidifier that has been the M Series' grief.

Thank you for a fast reply. I called my DME and got a voicemail(as usual) I have only had this whole setup since June 26th. I told the ladys voicemail that if they didn't get back to me by 2pm or so I would march my disabled a** (can I say a**?  Smile ) in there.

Good. You did the right thing. And stick to it. Take it in if you haven't heard from them by 2 PM.

Yeah, you can say it as a** or even a$$ on occasion. It isn't in the best of taste - but - there are times when we are SO frustrated that I've been known to use the same. *sigh*

You haven't had your setup that long. Have you had problems w/this DME other than not returning your calls? You know, we can't just ASSUME that our local DME is a PITA until we've given them a change to PROVE it. And while it is DIFFICULT at times we can catch a lot more flies w/honey than w/vinegar. DIPLOMACY and TACT along w/FIRMNESS can get us a lot further IF we can control our tempers. (Something I wish I was MUCH better at!!).

As I said earlier, the Respironics M Series Bi-PAP w/Bi-Flex is an EXCELLENT device. Really. They didn't become the leading xPAP manufacturer by providing shoddy equipment. They just made one BIG boo-boo w/the design of this M Series integrated humidifier. They've provided one recall and if I remember right 2 fixes plus a recent 3rd one that seems promising.

Hey, my first local DME supplier was a good size outfit w/offices in some 3 or more states. They were also sheisters. Or at least their RT I had to put up w/was. When I completed my capped rental on my Resmed S8 Elite w/EPR I immediately switched to a "mom & pop" smaller local DME supplier. One drawback is that their RT isn't "on premises" but at one of the locations some distance away in another town. However, they have been GREAT to work with and their RT is good about returning calls. Maybe not always as fast as I would like - but - the rest of the staff is so good, as he is too, that I've not really had any problems w/that. They do have a 24 hour emergency service.

I was also on supplemental 02 w/my Elite and my Vantage. My pressure was considerably lower than yours tho, just 8 cms. I've since been switched to a bi-level, but I had no problems when I said I wanted either the new Resmed S8 II VPAP Auto bi-level OR the Respironics PRE-M Series Bi-PAP Auto w/Bi-Flex. I made it clear I would NOT accept or even consider the M Series. Besides, if they gave me the VPAP Auto I wouldn't need a new integrated humidifier! I've done well enough on the VPAP Auto that my sleep doctor had me discontinue the 02 supplementation after a week w/the VPAP Auto. Its been 3 months. We'll see what the sleep doc has to say today. I see him this afternoon.

Good luck! Keep us informed. TRY to remember: Diplomacy, Tact and Firmness.
