Post Has anyone had a machine cut out on them at night? 
I am about to hit the DME office of my HMO with a request for a new CPAP machine.  My RemStar Plus M Series has cut out on at least two occasions that I am aware of and who knows how many other times it has quit on me.  The first time I woke because I wasn't getting enough oxygen...seems that's why I am using the darn machine in the first place.  I had to physically turn it back on.  The second (and last) time was this morning.  I was lying half-awake bed when I heard the machine beep and suddenly felt the rush of air that told me it had been off.  Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this.  The machine has a two-year warranty and I have had it one year.  Tomorrow it goes back.

Post CPAP Machine cut out 
I took it back to Apria yesterday along with the heated humidifier.  It seems both were messed up.  The humidifier no longer heated the water sufficiently and the machine apparently had a short.  In any case both were within their respective warranty periods and both were replaced.  The difference is already amazing.  I am now wondering if the machine were bad all along.  The air pressure and how the new machine it works is completely different from the original one.  The scary part is there really is no way to tell if it is not functioning properly particularly if the card is not in place (my HMO does not include the card with the machine).

You might want to check out the CPAP supply places.  If you're only lacking the card, they're only $12.50.  If you need the whole module it'll run about $70.  I bought the software and card reader and it tells you a lot about your therapy.  I'm not sure if the Plus has the same data fields as the Pro, but if it does, it's probably worth doing.

Post CPAP cutting out 
I'm really not sure a card would have told me why the machine was shutting down.  The machine itself apparently was malfunctioning.  I am sure that the folks at Apria checked it out before they gave me a new one.  The other problem was in the wiring of the heated humdifier.  When I would move the unit the lights would flicker, indicating there was probably a short in the wiring.  I believe that's what was causing the problem with the entire system.  For some time I had felt it wasn't doing the job for me but had nothing to determine what might be wrong.  It seems that if the HMO had follow up care they would have been able to find out the problem ---- isn't that what health care is all about?

I had a Resmed S7 that did that from day 1. The DME sent it in to Resmed twice and neither time could they simulate the problem. Finally the DME supervisor(after Resmed had my machine for 3 months) told me to just keep the "loaner" that I had been given. I have not had 1 night of problem with the replacement machine. Like anything else...I believe that there are "lemons" and my first machine was definitely one.

My first (April, 2008) BiPAP Auto M also kept shutting down in the night...same as yours did and it was replaced....  And GUESS what...coincidence?????....   It was from Apria!  I was told that they have now redesiigned the power supply.  

Just FYI for you...Apria tried to replace my new machine (the one that was a lemon) that I only had about 40 or so blower hours on it,  with one that had about 700 blower hours...If I had not known to look at the blower hours I would have been stuck with the *used* one.

Sorry this has taken awhile to reply.  It tells you on the LED screen...under blower hours...or something other than the complaincy hours (which can be reset) but the total machine hours (aka blower hours) can not be reset.

Does your machine have a card in it?  My HMO doesn't think it is worth the money...and this proves that it certainly would be.

Post CPAP discovery 
Just found the therapy information.  My machine shows 7 days, 55 hours.  I got it a week ago so it looks as if it might be new unless there is something else I am missing.  Thanks for cluing me in on this - I had never noticed the information before.  Guess I had only looked at it while it was on...or I have a newer model, which may be the case.

Post Machine Quit on Me Too 
I have been on CPAP for a few years now and this year switched to the new Remstar Plus M series with an integrated humidifier.
When I first got my new M series with C-flex I felt like something was wrong, and sure enough I finally awoke a couple times to find that it had shut down.
I took it to Apria and they exchanged it without question.
Now I am OK.

Funny thing...all 3 of us have APRIA...I wonder if there is any connection...

Fritzgla...The therapy hours is the compliancy info.  I do not know how much data capability yours has..if it is fully data capable or not.  But, besides the therapy hours mine has a screen that says Summary...therapy Hours, blower hours and sessions.

Rusty..oh yes...APRIA exchanged mine without question...even brought the replacement to my house.  The one I had that was defective was brand new...and I had only a few nights on it.  The one they brought out to me was used with about 700 hours on it.  I do not know where it had been...Had the person died while using it?...heebie jeebies on that one for me...how was it cared for..smokers, pets, dropped, Filters changed, Florida roaches in it?  WHO knows...It was also the principle of it.... I bought a new machine and wanted a new machine.  The RT gave me a hard time when I questioned it...RT kept telling me that mine was now used therefore does not qualify me to get a replacement unit that was new....and it was under warranty.  I kept telling the RT that it is not my fault that I received faulty equipment....and it IS indeed under warranty...therefore I will make a warranty claim myself directly with Resperonics or APRIA can.
I called the district office (located about 70 miles from my local APRIA office)  and spoke with the manager.  I was not met with resistance then....surprised me with just the opposite.  
In the end APRIA came through...but I should not have been met with any resistance.

I guess they changed the design of the electrical connections.  The humidfier and the machine each had an electric cord coming off and connection into the 'transformer thingy?'...the new is the humidfier plugging into the machine with 1 cord coming off the machine to the outlet.  That is the way they use to do it anyway.

I just recently got a CPAP - March of this year.  It is a Remstar Pro M I think (I'm not with it now).  I have noticed it shut off a couple of times, soon after starting therapy for the night, before I fell asleep.  But both times, it quickly turned itself back on because it detected my breathing I guess.  I mentioned it to my HME supplier and he asked if the house power might have "blinked" off.  We have had some storms in the area, and that sometimes happens.  Since there were no lights on (I was in bed), I can't say for sure if the electricity did or didn't do that.

Now I'm wondering if I have a faulty machine.  My machine has a power cord that goes to a "brick" kind of adapter.  Two cords come out of that - one for the humidifier and one for the actual CPAP.  

My question to you:   Is the two-cord approach the NEW style or the OLD style?

I have considered buying a UPS like those used on computers, to rule out problems with my electricity.  But I think I would need a 'sine-wave' UPS, and those are more expensive, so I haven't done it yet.  If there is a known problem with these machines, maybe I won't bother, and I'll ask for a replacement.  My insurance company is "renting" it from the DME.

The new style of machine has a short cord (about 6 inches) between the blower and the heated humidifier.  One question to you - do the lights on the machine flicker when you move the unit while it is plugged in?  If so, you definitely have a short in the wiring.  I thought the electricity was going off an on and that's what the problem was...it wasn't.  Our oven clock is sensitive to power outages and it never registered a PF (power failure).  It would seem that this model of humidifier may have the same problems that the old did.  And think about one thing -- you are using a machine because of apnea, which means you stop breathing....and the machine is actually causing an "apnea" to occur every time it goes off.  TAKE IT BACK IMMEDIATELY AND ASK FOR THE NEWER MODEL!!!!  I noticed an immediate difference when I started using the new machine.
