Post Newbie here!
I have been lurking around here for a week or so and thought I would come out lol! I have been on my BiPAP 3 nights, tonight being the 4th. I first night I slept great! The second night was alful! Mouth breathing!!! So I checked out the forum and found a tip I was looking for! I taped my mouth shut and slept great last night. Called The service that brought out my equipment telling them I needed a ff mask, but no one called back. I guess it is the tape again tonight! I see my sleep Dr for the first time July 3rd. Anyway Just wanted to say hi and thanks for the help already!

 Very Happy

You are welcome and Hello Groovygirliejuju...boy that was a mouthful!  Hey, try tieing the leg from a pair of pantyhose from under your chin to the top of your head...like the old cartoons when somone had a tooth out or the mumps.  It acts as a chin strap.  If that works you may be able to get away with using the nasal mask and a chinstrap.

Best of luck to you...see ya around...glad you came out from hiding..I did feel like someone was watching us....must of been you or Will E .

groovygirliejuju  I think you have my old machine, BiPAP Auto M series with Bi-Flex and Heated Humidifier. I used mine for just a bit over a year. my setting were up to 20/16 but I couldn't stand it so they lowered to 18/14! I also have supplemental  Oxygen then it was 2 Lpm. Now I have the VPAP and the O2 is set at 3Lpm. Anyway it can take some time getting use to BiPAP,not every night is easy, and it definitely can take some time to find the right mask! Some DME's are easier to work with than others, but some like mine let you take a mask home on a 14 day loaner program to try the mask out. That can really be a blessing, because it gives you enough time to see if the mask is really the one for you! I can't even begin to tell you the number of masks that I have tried! Anyway I think you will find this forum is a good place to come if you have a problem or need advice, or need to vent and rant a little, or just plain visit about XPAP! There are allot of really fine folks here that can help you and support you on your CPAP adventure! Welcome and Good Luck to You  white Beard

i'm new here too. Although i don't have SA, we beleive my husband does. he goes in Saturday for a full sleep study. The oximetry report indicated severe sleep disordered breathing. I have found these boards to be helpful as there IS so much to learn. welcome again and we'll learn together!

Welcome!  I prevent mouth breathing by tucking blankets under my chin.  I never thought I'd be able to use just a nose mask, but amazingly I can.  Also make sure the air is humid enough, because that will keep your nasal passages nice and moist and open.  Good luck!
