Post Skin Reactions and Variable AHI
Hey, just to drop in and say things have been ok so far, we definitely see improvements when he uses his CPAP, but when we downloaded the Smart Card the report shocked me. His original PSG AHI was only 1.5 with o2 desaturations to 84%.

The Smart Card report that the Dr went over w/ me showed that even with the CPAP on several nights his AHI was 8.6, some nights as low as 2.1.
('Sad') Poor little guy.

Is this typical variability?

Also, he has developed some sores on his forehead and cheeks, they looked better today but how do you handle it, anyone ever had this issue? We tried using a nasal pillow mask but he doesn't like it. So he is still using the small full face Quattro for now.

The past 2 days he has slept 3 hours after school, very hard to wake up...I am looking forward to the next Dr appt.

are the current apneas central or obstructive?
sometimes if the cpap pressure is too high it will cause central apneas

He shows Centrals but also Hypopneas. Not really an obstructive kid.

My son also has very sensitive skin and I've found that the only thing that really helps is to put Duoderm on the part of the mask that's causing the redness and/or irritation.  You could also put it on his skin I think but I haven't tried that because my kiddo reacts tape and adhesives.

yemma & shelee,

There is a cloth mask made by Circadience; it is called "Sleepweaver".  I haven't tried it but it looks very light-weight and comfortable.  There is no plastic touching the face--only cloth and it is supposed to conform to each individual's face shape.  They say it makes less noise as well.  The forum does not allow me to post the link because it also sells the product, but I am sure you can search the net and find it.

Hope this helps.
