I've been using the Ultra Mirage Full Face for over a year now and have been pretty happy with it, in that it's not uncomfortable, and I'm able to get a good seal. That said, I recently ordered a new mask from my DME, and I received a Mirage Quattro instead of the UMFF. So, at first I was a little annoyed as the DME didn't ask me if I minded the switch. Still, I've managed to get the Quattro to seal fine and it seems to be fine, so far.
My questions are these:
Has the Ultra Mirage been discontinued? Has this happened to anyone else?
Also, I've read some negative posts about the Quattro, but haven't personally had any problems with it - Anyone have any new info on the Quattro?
Thanks!
- David

I did hear a while back that Resmed's plans were to discontinue the Ultra mirage for the quattro, but I don't think they did. My DME claims his company doesn't carry the quattro, only the ultra mirage and the flexfit 432. Anything else has to be special ordered. He said there were too many problems with the quattro. Call your provider and ask what's up. If my pharmacist switched my meds without an explanation, I would be pretty peeved and would go somewhere else. I can't do that with my DME however. Lousy way to receive medical care. Virginia

They said the Ultra Mirage was no longer being manufactured and that the Quattro was the equivalent substitute. I'm not really having a problem with the Quattro, as much as I would have liked to know they were switching. The other full face masks they offer are the Respironics "Comfort Full" and the F & P "Flexifit 431."
They are telling me that I can return a mask for a new/different one within 30 days, so I am thinking that I may try one of the other ones next time I re-order. Out of curiosity, what's the difference between the Flexifit 431 and 432?
Thanks again!

Don't believe everything you hear. I think the UMFF is still around actually. Look at www.resmed.com to find out. Sometimes you'll know far more than these DME's as I've found that out many a times. I have both masks and like them. Although, the FF Quattro may be a bit more comfortable, the fit and a better seal.

The complaints I've heard about the Quattro had to do w/a part breaking, I believe around the vent/hose but don't really remember as I haven't encountered the problem. I "think" I read too that Resmed has replaced some of those earlier Quattros and has remedied or fixed the problem w/the newer ones.

Resmed VPAP Auto. Humidaire 3i, Simplicity & Micro masks, ResScan 3.4, S8 ResLink, Embla oximeter.
The problem with the Quattro is that the elbow piece ,that connects with the hose and swivels, leaks around where it pops into the mask. I emailed ResMed about it and they sent me a new plastic face piece as well as a new elbow. Funny, it leaks more than my original so I just wrapped plumber's tape around it and it's pretty much ok. I finally have the mask so it seals against my face pretty well now. Took me about five months to get to that point. I still have too many apneas but am working on that. I had a really awful apnea dream last night so I know I stopped breathing a couple of times. My heart was racing. Thought I was past all that.

I like my Quattro just fine, although it is the only mask I have ever used. I did get some leaks at first, but I have since tightened it up very snug and no more leaks. I do have some red marks on my face for about an hour every morning, but they go away with a hot shower.
The red marks don't look as bad as the dark circles I had before CPAP...and I had those all day.
