Post Dream / Reality Confusion
I have had sleep apnea about 8 years and treatment the past 6.  A couple of days ago I had my CPAP replaced for the first time.  I had a little trouble falling asleep as the air pressure seemed different - nothing too bothersome.  The first night of use with this new machine I had an extremely vivid dream.  So much so, that I spent most of the day dazed and confused and even acted out on my dream to my utter embarrasement - looking back a day later.  I have never had an experience like this and was wondering if this might be attributed to changing machines.  Perhaps impacted my REM sleep or something?  Or I am just plumb losing my mind or its some unrealated pyschosomatic nonsense.

Perhaps you finally HAD some REM sleep.  It sounds to me like your old machine wasn't doing it's job and now with your new one you slept really, really well after many years.

This is yet another reason why everyone should have a data capable machine.  You just don't know if you machine is actually doing what it is supposed to do without some data feedback.

Were there any other changes? For example a change in taking of a medication?

starting a prescription med such as an antidepressant often causes vivid dreams

No, I don't take meds of any kind.  I have not had any more experiences like this one.  However, since I have been using this new machine, when I wake up in the morning I am actively dreaming.  That hasn't been the case for a long time.  Based upon various articles and postings I have found, the most I can do (it seems) is to chalk it up to a change in my REM sleep, somehow instigated by my new and improved CPAP.
