Post She had her sleep study last night
She had her sleep study last night. It was truly a fight to get her to sleep. I think she was just *overly* exhausted. She kept twitching, flailing her arms, picking at things and just keeping herself busy so that way she didn't have to fall asleep. It took 2 hours to get her to finally crash. She was making me mad because I had kept her up till 1am the night before, woke her up at 7am and she got NO naps at all yesterday and for some strange reason (probably had everything to do with her environment and all the !@#! on her) she took FOREVER!!! to fall asleep.

The good news is that I believe that we got some pretty accurate results. Of course, I did not sleep pretty much the whole time. Her HR took a few dips, and her O2 sats dropped very often. average range was quite low, between 93 and 95 the whole night with long periods of it staying around 90. I asked the technician how she did and she said that she is not really supposed to give results because she cannot actually read them, but she did tell me that she does struggle to breathe at night and that the doctor would call me with a plan of action. I really hope that it is only oxygen they put her on. I don't believe that it is obstructive unless it is her airways closing off (such as tracheomalacia) because her tonsils and adenoids are never big and she doesn't snore all the time. I don't think she would tolerate the CPAP at all. They said that the doc would be calling me within two weeks with the results. Hopefully they call before because I'm so anxious to know what happened!!! She only got a total of five hours sleep too, so I can imagine if they recorded a whole 12-14 hour period that she usually sleeps at night!

What are normal CO2 levels for a 2 1/2 year old?

I wanted to let you know that I understand how difficult sleep studies are with 2 year olds! My son may be having another one in a couple of weeks..I'll know better on Friday.

Anyway, it is amazing to see how much information they can get from what seems like total chaos to us.

Can I ask you a question? How much does your daughter sleep in the course of the day? Our son sleeps between 11-12 hours at night (he'd sleep longer if the sun didn't come up) and takes a 3-4 hour nap in the day. I was just curious is this seems to the norm for apnea kids..

Quinn sleeps on average about 15-18 hours in a day. She sleeps 12-14 hours at night and takes a 3-4 hour nap. she is always tired, fatigues very easily and always has droopy eyes. One other thing that we are looking into is MITO, but if it is apnea and we can control that and her fatigue goes away, then perhaps all her other symptoms of MITO will as well. Who knows? But it could be a reason for her fatigue. I don't know about her low tone though. We go to see the geneticist/metabolic doc on the 3rd of June. I really hope that we can get the results of the sleep apnea test by then so we can be armed with that as well, but I doubt it.
