Post Need help understanding my test results
After waiting 6 weeks for my first sleep study results I finally got them when I went into the sleep Center last night for my 2nd study with the CPAP.

As mentioned previously - my first night was not so good.  As you can see from my below statistics, I only slept a few hours--which is not normal for me.  Usually I fall asleep within 5 - 10 minutes, but it took me forever to fall asleep my first night.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone can help me understand my results from that first study - see below?   Question   Very Happy

Hope this helps!!

-------------------------------------
Respiratory Disturbance Events
Obstructive Apneas: 1      - Very low actually.
Central Apneas: 4           -  Also very low
    Mixed Apneas: 0
    Hypopneas: 53               - There's the culprit!
    Apnea Index: 1.5
A & H Index: 17.3            - This is your "AHI".  17.3 is moderate,  Less than 5 is considered normal

Oxygenation:
Lowest SA02: 80              - This is your blood oxygen level...anything under 95% is a red flag
    Average waking SA02: 94

DIAGNOSIS:
327.23    Obstructive sleep apnea - Good ole "OSA"
786.09    Snoring
799.02    Hypoxemia - Low Blood Oxygen
427.89    Bradycardia - Slowed Heart Rate.

I am NOT a Doctor but I believe that in some cases without pronounced apneas, they prescribe Oxygen to keep your levels up.

What did your Doctor say?

Thanks for the quick response.  I've not yet met with the doctor (appointment is still 3 weeks away) but he ordered a 2nd sleep study to try the CPAP - which I did last night.  Unfortunately I again had trouble getting to sleep, but did sleep at least 4 - 5 hours.  Every time the tech increased the pressure I had trouble with it and it woke me up.  I'm assuming that with the right CPAP (Auto vs manual) I might have better luck.  As this point I guess I have to wait another 3 weeks to see the Doctor and find out what he says.

Thanks again, Dave

You doc may well want to try CPAP first, and see if your O2 levels come up to accepable numbers.  If they don't, he/she may add supplement oxygen to your CPAP.  You have enough hypopneas to warrant treatment with a CPAP regardless of oxygen desaturation issues.

This is the place to come if you have questions or problems.  Take a look at the 'sticky' posts at the top of each of the forums, and try out the 'search' in the forum bar above, or the google-style search box in the upper right.  Chances are any questions or problems you have, have been asked and answered here many times.   And, of course, you are welcome to post here, too Smile

Best of luck to you with your new CPAP which I'm pretty sure you'll be getting Smile

Blessings,
