Hearing this, I hope I have results like that at my titration and beyond. I am miserable, between the apnea at night and waking up with my allergies in the AM. I have my titration 2 weeks from Tuesday and at first, I was nervous, but hearing more and more positive results is making me feel VERY hopeful.
I wish you the best and hope you have results like I have achieved. I was nervous also and I was convinced that, "NO Way was I wearing a mask and looking like Darth Vader" but the surgery statistics are not that great and it can be painful, so I decided to give it a try. Like your first test, its difficult to sleep in a sleep lab. In my first test I was uncomfortable and I did not know if I fell asleep or not and when I asked, the tech just smiled. I don't think they are supposed to help you since they give you some questions when the test is done.
Now about the second test. I did not think I would be able to sleep with a mask. She put it on and my first impression is that is was comfortable, (Mirage Swift II) Pillow system (She said it works good on patients with a deviated septum). The only thing I would mention is that since I did not know how the mask looked or worked, I wish I would have known that the tube can go in front as well because she put it on the left side of my face and that is the side I like to sleep on and as a result I could not put my face on the pillow. She may have done that on purpose because they want you to try to sleep on your back to get a worse case scenario.
Now the amazing news. I awoke at about 6:30 am the sun was just coming up and she came back in the room (I think she may of had to actually wake me up) (huge grin) and I tried to speak and say hello but the machine was at 14 and well, forget about speaking with it on that pressure setting (its an odd sensation the air pressure goes through your mouth if you open it and it just feels strange) I have of course learned you can speak with it on and very high but its still strange and clearly its not designed to speak with it on and turned up.
Well I got home and was telling my wife about the experience and I had some breakfast and was feeling WONDERFUL. I felt like that movie Awakenings (1990) about a group of patients that are in a coma and the Doctor gave some of them a drug and they briefly come out of the coma they have been in for 30 years. I just hope my results are not like the movie and last a life time (In the movie the drug fails and they slowly go back into their comas).
Later that day my wife and my son said, hey Dad your so full of energy and look different. I got so excited about the results that I wanted my results and a CPAP machine ASAP. I could not find a good DME and they all tell you next week, next month, need to wait for your results etc.
I did not accept that and wrote letters and called all over the State. I found a DME that would rent me one out of my pocket for $350 a month and I did not care I ran there. I had the lab fax the results to them also.
I have been on the machine 2 weeks now and feel AMAZING. I hope you have similar results. My Apnea was severe and my AHI was 77 and my blood oxygen level was dropping to %65. Now the machine reports my AHI at 5.5 (down from 10 two weeks ago) appears to be coming down slowly).
Best of luck, don't be nervous the technology is amazing and it makes a major difference. I would be inclined to say in my opinion its life altering. I know the key is compliance and today for the first time, I woke up at 7:00 am but wanted a little more sleep but did not put it back on and my wife woke me up and smiled and said, Honey we like you better with it on (We all sleep better too) LOL !
Let us know how it goes for you !
