I just read in my local newspaper that a Dentist in Catskill NY has created a new nighttime appliance that slowly spreads out a small jaw.  Over two years this is supposed to generate substantial improvements in appearance of the teeth and face in people with jaws that are underdeveloped and misplaced.  THis is my problem and I live fairly close to Catskill.

It's a new product, but there are some other dentists in other parts of the country offering it.

I am really interested in this, since it seems like a way to fix what they tried to fix when I was a child in the 1950's, but couldn't change for me then-------

I called and talked to Dr. Belfor yesterday.  For some reason he picked up his own phone.  He was very concerned about my case and said he had not had any experience treating someone with an index as high as 88, which is where mine is. He has worked with people with an index of 40.

 He wants to see me right away and said a full facial developement  costs about $6000 spread over 2 years time.  He seemed to think that helping me would be a challenge and an opportunity to develop his device.  He is older, semi-retired, used to be at NYU dental (school??).

My jaw is just the kind of underdeveloped, small jaw with crowded teeth that his device seems aimed at enlarging.

I also saw another dentist Monday, who thought I could benefit from TMJ treatment while using the mask for the apnea.  If I worked with him, he'd make an appliance I'd have to wear all the time, which would not create any permament change for the better.

I went to see Dr. Belfor a week ago.  He was excited and enthusiatic at the prospect of helping me despite my huge tongue and tiny jaw.  This was a refreshing change from the response of the other 20 dentists I have consulted during my life.

He decided the Homeoblock would not be the best option.  He felt that I am in a bad situation and need the max relief the quickest possible route.  His facial development program works slowly over years.  Also, he said he doubted that he could fit it into my mouth because there isn't much room for it.

So, he will use some other appliance and modify it for me.

I am so happy to finally meet someone who tells me the truth and is willing to attempt something.  Even if it doesn't work, at least someone made the attempt!
