I don't know if there is a world record AHI, but anything over 30 is considered "Severe"!

 AHI
Is AHI the only indicator or is there also an issue of how long an apnea lasts? I have an AHI of 59 but my Dr said my arousals lasted from 20-30 seconds each.

I am an RT and worked with CPAP's, and also read sleep studies. I do not know that there is a record high AHI but I can tell you that I have had them as high as 120's and mine was 118.
An apnea-hyponpea index is the indicator of Severity of Sleep Apnea that I patient has and also the number that Insurance goes by to approve your CPAP/BiPAP machine. In order for insurance to pay for your CPAP they usually require an AHI of 15 or greater, and there are also other factors involved as well. Of course there always is with Insurance. LOL!!
Here is the AHI Severity levels:
5 or less is considered normal;
5-14 mild obstructive sleep apnea;
15-29 moderate obstructive sleep apnea;
30 or above is considered severe
Thanks,
RT

"FloppySleeper" on this board has an AHI of 120. Mine's a puny 53.6 by comparison!

And I was 29.9. I still felt like !@#! every day.
My take is that it's like comparing how many packs of cigarettes you smoke daily. It's all bad!

Mine was 121.3 -- and the sleep tech said that she'd seen a few higher than that.
