Post So Mad, need advice
Hi everyone,

I am so mad I can barely type.  It turns out my doctor did request an auto-titrating machine which is fine but I STILL have to have another sleep study done in order for my insurance to cover the costs of the mask, etc.  Right now I have 2 choices according to the supplier of the masks.  One, I can get a mask to use for 2 weeks and pay $100 for it, then STILL have to go for a sleep study (for the 3rd time, 1st time I never feel asleep) to do the titration.  Or, I just go ahead and get another sleep study done and then get fitted with a mask.  I am trying to call the doctor to find out why they did put a mask on.  I don't get it.  The doctor when he called me the other night to tell me I had sleep apnea said that the ins will cover the mask for 2 weeks and then I will have to pay for it.  That was a load of !@#! and he didn't mention anything about another sleep test.  So what do I do?  I really don't want to have another sleep study done incase I don't fall asleep again.  I don't know if they will cover me for a 4th one.  I guess I HAVE to fall asleep in order for me to get a mask covered by ins.  I am so upset about all of this.  The only helpful and understanding person so far has been the lady and the supplier.  And of course, all of you!  Very Happy  I am beginning to think I should find another doctor.

Any suggestions?

Wendy

I can't offer you much in the way of advice, but you have my sympathy and understanding.   During my sleep studies, I was concerned that I did not fall asleep (especially during the titration).  I did in fact sleep enough for them to get what they needed.  I really doubt that your insurance company would have much of a case denying you additional studies based on not being able to complete the tests.  One thing I do know about insurance companies is that sometimes you have to really work hard to get past the resistence they put up when you don't agree with what they are doing.  Frequently, you can get them to work with you, but it usually involves forcing the issue.

I can't comment about what your doctor is doing.

as a cronic insomnia sufferer I always fortify myself with lots of sleeping pills and sometimes some alcahol as well, as I dont want to lie there all night wide awake, but of course Im not suggesting you do this
