How many of you feel as if you have created more problems from thinking about your sleeping problems?

Yes, it does cause me more problems!  I am "afraid" to sleep in my bed, prefering to sleep in a chair.  The apnea causes me to sleep 'forever' because of the quality of sleep I get.  I need to be physically pulled out of bed, less I'm in there for 12-15 hours, no better off.

Quite the contrary!!  Thinking about my sleep problems got me to treatment!!  Nothing beats education and self-advocacy!!

Not all "treatment" is helpful, though.  It took 5 months for me to receive the results from my sleep study, although the technician told me immediately what was the problem.  Neurologists will not take action until they receive the many pages of interpretation by a sleep study specialist.  So, we wait some more, and in the meanwhile.......

Five months is completely uncalled for.  Get a new doctor now.  For info. on how to find a board certified sleep doctor, see my post "doc. and sleep lab certifications" under the "Interesting Links" section.  Any good sleep doc. will see you no later than a week or two to go over the results and give you a Rx for a CPAP.  The results are ready to be interpeted almost immediately after the study.

Diplomates of the ABSM can be  Pulmonary docs., Neurologists, etc.  But, just because they are a Neurologist doesn't mean they know anything about sleep med.  I had a Neurologist try to mess me over like you, but I caught him much sooner.  I'm really sorry about your experience.

Yes, it IS uncalled for.  There are 2 in our area. I'm scheduled for CPAP sleep study tomorrow night; the other neurologist who specializes in sleep study will be doing this reading.  I really don't know what to expect.  I imagine they'll be using a CPAP? and making some kind of adjustments.  Then I wait (days, they say this time) for a prescription.  Yea, but what's that mean to me?  I have to try on a dozen different masks?  Hard to believe they would 'rent' this type of item, due to sanitary concerns.  Had I known, as the saying goes, I would have gone to Philadelphia SS Lab.  But the Dx is finally made.  Funny, I've known it for years.  Had a sleep study done 10 years ago, and they 'found nothing of consequence"  That was by the one who'll be reading tomorrow's.  But I guess she doesn't have as hard of a decision this time?  Then I understand I'll be given a list of "suppliers".  Well, who knows their reputation, when the closest support group meets Quarterly, and another every other month.  Guess I'll get on the phone & see if their contacts are still current.  I get so tired of having to 'fight' for information.  Sorry to make this comparison, but the indigent have case workers to do the work for them and keep everyone/everything in line...and, free.  Forgive me, I'm tired. I'm in 2nd career as home health aide/nurse's aide in private homes.  See a lot.
