Hi everyone I am new to this and have a few questoins that I hope you can answer. I am 23 and my wife tells me that I snore all the time. The other day she told me that I "click". A coworker of hers told her that I could have sleep apnea and that I should get it checked out. I decided to do some research first before I go to a doctor but I did not necesarily meet the requirements that usually acompany sleep apnea. Like I said I am only 23 but cronic fatigue first thing in the morning plagues me every day. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm new to this, too, but have been suffering for a long time.  Last month while doing some searching on some of my main symptoms (frequent nighttime urination, and memory issues) I came across this site.

If you look in the FAQ forum, you can find a list of symptoms.  Do what I did - take a look at that list (and lists on other sites - google "sleep apnea symptoms") and see how you compare.  I was surprised at how many symptoms there are for sleep apnea that I never knew about, but had.

Print out a list, write "yes/no/maybe" next to them.  Then take it to your doctor.  I don't know about you, but I swear I forget half of what I want to tell the doctor when I'm actually in there, so a printed list is very helpful.  I only got about half-way through the symptom list before she said, "Well I can tell you right now, you're going for a sleep study."  :)  Remember, you don't have to have EVERY symptom for it to be sleep apnea.  For example, I've never had morning headaches, and would never say I've ever felt 'depression'.  Then again, maybe my memory is so bad I don't remember headaches.  ;)

Even if you don't have enough symptoms to warrant a sleep study, that list of symptoms you DO have might tip your doctor off to something else, or warrant some tests.

Youngandcurious,

Gee, Frank said it best!
Here's a quick link to that part of the FAQ section listing symptoms:

Click here for link to FAQ topic

As FJC said, you will not likely have all of the symptoms, but I would say if you have two or more, you should go to a doctor and discuss it.
You don't have to fit the stereotype of being older and overweight.  People of all ages and health conditions have sleep apnea.
Naturally it's not something you want to have, but your health is important, so it is equally important to find the cause of  your fatigue.
If you can rule out sleep apnea, great.  Then you and your doctor can search for other causes.
But if you have sleep apnea, you will be a lucky person to have started treatment early on for it.
So many of us wish we'd been diagnosed so much earlier.  Regardless of what you have, it's important to find out what it is.

Good luck.

Oh, and FJC .........  thanks, it's nice to know the FAQ is being read.  And that list idea, of taking a list with you to the doctor, is a great idea!

Linda
