Post Still tired after 3 months on CPAP
I find myself more tired and have much less energy since I started using the CPAP 3 months ago. I am now going into 4th phase or REM and even sleep in sometimes; but very tired. I don't have a whole lot of air leakage, that I know of, and computer shows very little air leakage as well. Why am I still tired? I heard of an individual who had the same symtoms and went for the surgery to correct and is now energetic and not tired at all. I'll have to get a referral from my DR, I guess, to get further tests done to determine what can be done. Has anyone out there experienced similar problems to mine?

if you have a nose mask I would suspect your mouth is open when you are asleep, is there anyone who can watch you when asleep or maybe set up a videp camera

I just comlained about the same thing at the sleep clinic and was told it would be 6mths before I would start to see an improvement.
The only t hing he seemed to be concerned about was if I was ripping my mask off in the night or not!

I'm still trying to get used to my C-pap also - but as far as the mouth problem - get a chin strap - it helps me.

Good Luck- John

I dont think it should take as long as 6 months to see a benefit

Hooray! My thoughts indeed.

I think too many doctors use the "you haven't been using it long enough" excuse which I find very patronising.

When I started CPAP treatment, I went back to the specialist 3 weeks later and told him CPAP was having absolutely no effect at all on me. He said I hadn't been using it long enough, but I persisted in asking what else can I try - he increased the pressure on my machine, and surprise surprise, I noticed a difference (only mild, but noticeable) the first night - meaning the pressure prescribed at the sleep study was probably incorrect.

Like Collin, I've been on CPAP for nearly 3 months which I think is long enough to realise if it is making progress in the right direction, which it isn't. Hopefully a visit to a new specialist next week will be worthwhile...

Collin,
I have the same issue and it turned out to be a hormonal imbalance have your levels tested.  Apnea can create severe deficencies.

OSA doesn't produce deficiencies, but there are some other physical deficiencies whose symtoms mimic apnea.  Thyroid hormone deficiency for example.  So it is always a good idea to have a thorough medical exam to rule out other illnesses appearing as apnea or coexisting with apnea.

Post Re 3 months and still tired.
I went to see my Doctor yesterday and went to the clinic this morning. I will get my results soon and will advise the outcome. My Dr alluded to the possibility that I might have a hormonal imbalance caused by my thyroid gland.
